They can be from anywhere
Just be sure the size is appropriate, 150x150 pixels
If you do an image search on www.Google.com, it states under each picture how large the image is. And if it needs to be re-sized, I'm sure someone here will be nice enough to do it for you

You can use any pic as long as it fits in the size restrictions that are set up by lit check on your edit options page it gives you the specifics

What i did was i went to search and typed in avatars and it came up with pages of sites.

So i went thru them until i found what i wanted.
