I've called several electronics stores like Bestbuy and such and they have absolutely no idea what I am talking about.

Any ideas?

There is no such thing as blank "VCDs". You simply use a normal CDR or CDRW CD.

VCD is a format that goes on regular CDs, like .wmp and .avi

Any CD-R can be used as a VCD. It just means that you are copying video onto a CD. Of course CD's only have like 800meg on them so depending what you want to use it for it is a cheap alternative to buying DVD-R's

note that VCD may or may not play in your DVD player...

to my knowledge, it is a regular cd, that you can use to burn as a vcd. it's the software, not the cd that makes it that way.

Interesting because I bought a set of vcd's off ebay and they play in my dvd player but the video's that I've recorded onto regular cdr's won't. The vcd's that I got off ebay are blank there is no writing anywhere except a serial number so I don't even know what brand that they are.

VCD is simply a format.

CD-Rs should serve your purpose, esp. seeing as how my computer can burn them.

Actually, I lied, VCD is actually just a renaming of the mpeg format.

You can play VCD right on your comp with the right codec.

The problem is I have a tiny moniter and most of the stuff that I have downloaded is subtitled and I really don't want to sit on my uncomfortable computer chair for two hours to watch a movie.

you have to create a vcd its not just burning a video file to a cd

try to use this site dusty www.vcdhelp.com

its a pretty complicated site but it will have everything you need on there

VCD and SVCD are DVD CD-Roms and they hold LARGE amount of data. VCD holds up to 8gb and SVCD holds 16gb ...

*hard drive noise* searching net... for more info....

How do I change the format?

vcd is a way of creating a video file so it will fit on a standard cd and be VHS quality

svcd stands for super vcd it will be vhs quality but will keep some dvd functions

some dvd players can play vcd or svcd or both

Thank you I will come back to the site later I am afraid to open more windows as I've got downloads going that have been downloading most of the day.

ok i looked at that site for you some

and what you need to do is get a converter that will convert it too a vcd format cd image (should be a *.bin file and *.cue file)

then you burn that onto a cd using burning software

you can get both the converter and the cd burning software from that site :)

so good luck :)

If it isn't a bin/cue or an mpg then you really don't have a hope. If it's encoded with anything (DivX, Xvid) You don't have a prayer.

A movie - feature length on VCD spans two disks and 1.4 gigs.

movies can be ripped and copied to VCD using a program called DVD Squeeze or DVDCopy

note that the conversion process can take anywhere from 8-15 hours

I alos found something interesting...You cannot copy a DVD to a DVD-R since DVD-R's only have 4.7 gig and a regular Movie DVD is larger...you will have to use 2 DVD's to copy...interesting eh?

I'd like to figure out what Zmey is talking about...i havent heard of the 8gig VCD's

It's not actually a converwsion. It's a file generation. .Cue is the file that tells the DVD (or VCD) player how long everything lasts, .bin is a binhex file that just compresses the file. If you put an avi into a bin and cue generator, you'll get a bin that won't play.

yes i know but a vcd is a cd image ... so when you make the vcd from a video file you will be left with a cd image to burn onto a cd

vcd stands for video cd :)
