I shook hands with the owner of the company I work for today and the thought occurred to me that I was shaking the hand that he uses/used to masturbate with and it sort of disgusted me. Even though I have used my own right hand many, many times. Why is it customary for people to shake hands? And judging from my own experience, handshaking as well as jacking off occurs with one's own prominent hand.

You shake hands to demonstrate that you have no weapon (sword, dagger, club etc) in that hand. It's a mark of trust, friendship and respect

You use your right hand because we've always been a right-handed dominant society and in the middle ages left handed people were thought to be freaks - So swordsmen always used their right hands.

Shaking hands with your sword hand was a very simple way of saying "I am unarmed, I mean you no harm"

great now every time I shake some ones hand I am gonna think about them touching them selves........lol:p

oh I know
it is one of my favorite pastimes;)
......which makes me wonder..........if anyone has thought about my fingers sliding in and out while they were shaking my hand:eek:......lol

Yeah, but I'm a south paw, so you're all perfectly safe with me.

As if I wasn't already. And moreso...

Hey, I'm only human. Well, almost.

Oh no, it's That Fucking Cake Guy.

You are so going to wish you hadn't said that, with me in the vicinity. :D

Loulou

Ps. Love ya!

Let's not get OCD! If his hand was not sticky or gooey I think you are safe! If you are still bothered, go wash your hands...

He'll have washed it, presumably.

One would hope, but don't count on it. A surprising number of people don't wash their hands after going to the bathroom...why should this be any different?

In fact, in heraldry (medieval "corporate logos"), the left side was called 'sinister'. Left-handed folks were also 'sinister'. Those folks could shake hands, or wave a greeting (also done right-handed for the same reason), and then stab you with a knife! Hence, sinister. The modern definition of sinister derives from that same reason.

As a side note, that right-hand dominance also influenced architecture. Notice that spiral staircases, including ALL those in medieval castles and such, spiral clockwise. That arrangement favors the retreating right-hander (he has room to swing his weapon), and hinders the advancing right-hander (who keeps banging his arm on the center-column).

Returning to the thread topic, I'm going to greatly enjoy thinking about where that hand has been every time I shake a beautiful woman's hand... :D:p

Already got it. I don't shake hands and some people take offence.

In certain cultures (Celtic?), wasn't it customary for males to grab each others' goolies as a sign of mutual trust?

Personally, I think you have too much time on your hands if you are concerned with this. :p
Might I suggest you carry a travel size bottle of Purell with you?
LOL

Maybe but not everyone uses their hands to do it ;)

Quite frankly I'm more irritated with the idea of people who shake hands limply...creates instinctive dislike for me. Which is why I teach my students to do it properly.

In today's times it shows respect.

In prior times, as everyone said, it was to prove you were unarmed.

To add to the left handed thing...in the past it was also thought that there was a connection between the left hand and the devil which is why it's called the left handed path. If you're a lefty, you were probably in league with the devil. Hence why all those nuns used to smack you if you tried to write with your left hand.

Now i know why I love shaking hands with women hehhee

Ya, absolutely - There's a castle in Wales whose owner was left handed, and the staircases are built the other way around - One presumes he didn't much care for the left or right-handedness of his guards.

The metal group Danzig recorded a song called "Left hand black"". Danzig is a satanic band, I often pondered the origin of the catholic source of the prejudice against the left hand, being an atheist myself.

Why, you're probably right, Stone! However, I always assume they've washed their hands since then, too.

You know, I think there is danger in thinking too much...

It just occurred to me that most of the people I know who mindfuck stuff like that are too young to be here.
