I guess I asked for it. Leaving wine on top of the refrigerator for almost a year. Gawd, Lukky's gonna kill me when he hears that. LOL

So anyway, I'm pretty sure it went bad. Tasted kinda weird. Didn't smell right. My stomach's not happy with it either. The cork looked kinda funky too.

Should I pour out the other bottle just to be safe? LOL

Is it red wine?

If it tastes funky pour it out or cook with it.

But by trade, if you pour a glass of red wine and there is a dark brownish rim at the top of the wine that is slightly discolored, its gone bad.

Ditto

It was white?

It could be the way you stored it. The temperture in the room. It doesn't take much to throw a wine off really.

Don't pour it out, cook with it!

I have a question, too. T and I bought a bottle and I wanted to chill it quickly, so I put it in the freezer. I was only going to leave it for a little while, but we forgot about it. Three days later, I removed it. The cork was about half way out...this is a bad sign, right?

Did you uncork it first, and then put the cork back in?

Its probably fine, but wines not meant to be chilled in the freezer. Unlike beer or liquor.

White wine vinegarises after being opened, or if its left for more than 6 months normally, just cause its never really looked after, so if it tasted sour, thats what it was

No, I had not uncorked it. And it didn't come all the way out, looks like about an inch or so. The rubber thing broke, too.

I guess I'll cook with it. I'm used to cooking with reds, and this is a white.

Weird. Dunno, lol.

I use white wine to poach my salmon and chicken. Whie wine, a little orange or lemon zest.

It was probably halfway uncorked simply from an increase in pressure inside the bottle. Things expand when they freeze, especially liquids, and while I know it wouldn't freeze entirely, it would indeed solidify slightly. This would cause the increased pressure inside the sealed bottle, and result in the cork pushing out. You're lucky it didn't explode. As for the wine itself, I'd say it's fine. I wouldn't see where there would be a problem with it at all.

Oooh, that sounds really good, and particularly for this wine. Its really a very unique white and is the only white that I like. Its called Gewurztraminer, and it has ginger, peach, pineapple and jasmine in it, and is not dry in the least. Its very fruity and spicy, too. Everyone that I ask to try it finds themselves buying excessive amounts of it.:D

Ah hell just drink it Intrigued, not yet been exposed it would be good. On other hand I loss 4 bottles of champaign a couple weeks ago forgot them sitting in case out in storage garage after new years eve. went out there last week to take the 4-wheeler out for ride and found corks all over the place thought damn wife had party with out me then found four open but still almost full and realized that at -20 for last couple months they just blew there tops.

Yeah, and thats what was so odd about it, it did appear to be frozen solid. I put Vodka in and forget about it and it never freezes, but this did seem to.

I guess if I get really desperate, I'll give it a whirl, otherwise, I'll poach some chicken in it.:)

Actually thought about taking back to liquor store and telling them that they were defective kind of funny looking at bottles and foil wrap and wire cork stops still aroung bottle except for very top where cork went through. Think they'd take them back?

Hmmm

Jeez bottle of wine never survives long enough to go bad in our household, it's uncorked and down the neck in no time.

Wife's worse than me bless her, often come home and catch her with a glass cheap and cheerful of Hock on the go.

pops...........

I'm seriously doubting it, sven.:)

I keep thinking of those damn corks shooting all over the place, and wishing I had been there to see it. Can you imagine how nice and quiet and still the room was, and then all of a sudden, pop, boom, bam...all hell cuts loose???:D

I'm partial to Riesling, but this was a very nice Ortega (i think) that hubby had bought last year. Well, not exactly. I drank the first bottle, and he went for more since I liked it so much. I may buy another bottle next week to replace the bad ones.
