When what's legal here isn't legal there

Friends, I would appreciate your advice:
I am writing a story about a lesbian encounter in a country where same-sex sexual activity is a criminal offence. I wonder if I can mention that fact in the story, or if I'd be breaking any laws, or rules of Literotica by doing so?
Same-sex relations are perfectly legal in my country (and in the USA) , but my concern is that by describing characters doing something illegal in some other countries, maybe it would be problematic in some way?

That's an interesting question.
I don't think it would run afoul of the site's guidelines, unless perhaps you write it as a political piece about the country in question. At the very least, the fact that the site has categories for various non-hetero shenanigans implies that they have no interest in enforcing the laws of such states.

Well, you might run afoul of the laws in the country in question but I assume you are not overly concerned with that.

There is a nonzero probability this might somehow collide with the "no politics" rule Lit has but I honestly doubt that a mere mention of the law would. If you are concerned that depiction of illegal deeds in general might be forbidden by Lit, then there is no such rule at all. For example, drug use and murder can totally be depicted in stories posted here (just as long as the latter isn't used for titillation, but that's a separate rule).

I've written a series of stories featuring a Ugandan lesbian whose ex marries her in order to help her avoid being deported back to Uganda (where she would most likely be raped and murdered). The stories mostly take place in the UK, but she does discuss the reality of life in Uganda for queer people. They've all been published with no issue.

Let me first say that I think your story will be fine also, as the others have already commented.

But...thinking about your premise...

The emotions that would run through the participants of a same-sex coupling with the shadow of the strong disapproval of society looming heavy if you were caught (perhaps not as much in this day and age, but certainly in an earlier time and place) would be intense. But the same coupling with the shadow of death looming if you were caught? Talk about heightened emotions and senses and feelings! I will look forward to your take on the topic.

As far as I know there are no rules about writing stories which involve law-breaking. Some of my characters have taken drugs which are of course illegal in the UK, and no issues publishing.

The country in question might block Lit, but that is unlikely unless a senior politician is involved in the action.

You can make up your own rules and societies. Schlank (who has a large body of work) has a few ongoing series where the woman goes to a foreign country in Europe where slavery is legal and signs herself over. She comes back in the same slave role. (Although from what I remember, she is not a legal slave but still lives like one in their relationship.)
I see no problem with any of it. I take that back, the rules of what is legal or illegal still have to conform with Lit standards.
