Does that have any sway on your vote? Here in Illinois, the predominant attack from Democrats on Republicans is they are 'Rich Guys'.

You may not know this, but Illinois is a mess. The Democrats are in charge and they have no ideas to fix the problems so they resort to class warfare. Does it work?

The 'Rich Guy' negative ads have not sway on my vote. Most major politicians are rich regardless of party. I'm sure both D's and R's all have a good laugh together at the country club at the end of the day.

Look at Harry Reid who went to congress as a penniless, unsuccessful lawyer and is now a mufti-milionare as are all members of his extended family. He seemed to see no hypocrisy in playing the evil rich guy card against Romney and lately the Koch Brothers.

I saw a list of assets off their disclosure forms and a breakdown by party. Republicans had the top two spots, then Democrats had like 7 of the ten top richest. It varies by year. Most of the wealthy Republicans were businessmen, the Democrats trial lawyers.

That would depend on the source of the wealth. If a candidate had worked hard and amassed a fortune on his or her own, I would consider that person to be qualified, barring other factors. If candidates had never worked but had been born rich, that would eliminate them from my consideration.

I would probably vote against trial lawyers on the grounds that they must be crooked, else they would not be lawyers.

Nah...they are all rich, they are the elite and they will continue to be until they wreck this bitch.

Name a single fuckin' person who got rich on their own....one.

I would consider someone like Elizabeth Warren to be well-off, but not Mitt Romney rich. From what I've read she's done very well for herself, but she didn't come up from a privileged background.

That depends on how you define "on their own".

One of my best friend's family owns and operates a small mill, they employee little over 100 people. They are not filthy rich, they make enough to get buy and pay the bills.

Every time election season rolls around they bitch and moan, because it has become their duty to help people run for local office. These are the responsibilities that come with owning a small business, especially one like theirs that is so visible to the public. Their mill sits on like 60 acres with huge industrial machinery and equipment everywhere.

So I feel that a portion of the rich people who run for office are doing it for unselfish reasons. I actually got that vibe from Romney, I think he is a good person who only wanted the best for his fellow countrymen.

Wealth is relative...like health and smarts and good luck.

Almost all the rich people I know struggle to stay solvent because the money is all about their low self-esteem.

It depends.

The first thing you have to decide is did they do it by creating something; by building something with their own talent, sweat equity and willingness to take a risk. If the answer is yes, then obviously they have a grip on reality and that is something the founders talked about.

Like John Forbes Kerry, she married well.

I know this will come as a shock but there is a truthful answer to this question:

Are you a Native American?

Possible responses (check one):

____ 100%
_____50%
_____25%
_____12½%
_____6.7%
_____3.1%
_____1.6%
_____0.8%
_____0.4%
_____0.2%
_____0.1%
_____No
_____It's possible, though I'm not entirely sure. Somebody in my family once mentioned that they were told that my great-great-great grandmother might have been a Native American.
