When is a Poem Not a Poem: Literotica Limerick

I recently submitted a limerick to the Humor and Satire category. It was rejected with a request to submit it to the Poetry category.

A limerick is by definition humor (i.e., "...a light humorous, nonsensical or bawdy composition with five anapestic lines..."). With its satiric intent, tongue-in-cheek references and ribald content, I think it belongs in the humor category, rather than in the more serious poetry grouping.

So submit it to the Poetry category. What's the problem? You submit your work to a market, and the editors wish to place it in a particular part of their publication.

That's the situation here. Our opinion matters little; we are not the editors.

I went and read your posting....
I liked it and I commented upon it.

I noticed that the two people that commented before me complained of the lenght.... this is one of those times that I would have as the author gone and posted a comment saying.... look folks I tried to post it somewhere else and this is where it landed.... so don't kill the author.

Thanks for the comment, Elizabetht. You're right, the length was driven in part by the need to exceed the 750 word minimum for a story post. Alas, we have no control over such things and it will be buried in Poetry with no views.

A good thing that I enjoyed writing it. Pleasure is it's own reward.
