When I was growing up...

WIWGU lunch pails were metal with a matching thermos.

I had The Muppets and then Strawberry Shortcake.

Riding in the back of a truck, going 70 on the highway, sitting on the wheel well was totally legal.

When I was growing up I reread every post here. Damned some of us are really old.

I'm reposting my old comment for you snot nosed young punks who can't shift a stick shift car and drink bottled water.

When I was growing up... there was a daddy, a mommy, and normally two little well behaved children called a family. Daddy worked while mommy cooked, cleaned, and shopped for those TV dinners and other food.
The remote was the oldest kid. Every time a damned Ford V-8 went by the house the TV went off channel. We didn't worry about what was said on TV. No one called others a dumb shit, a cunt, or showed 99% of their body parts. Red Skelton signed off saying "God Bless."
The first time I saw a female belly button on TV mom changed channels.

We ran all over the neighborhood shooting our Roy Rogers cap guns and tied friends to trees so we could shoot Dairy Queen spoons out of their hands with our BB gun.. Nobody screamed "git off my lawn!" and no one got their eye shot out.
Drinking water from the garden hose was a treat.
We used switch blade knives to carve sticks into toys at recess and carried little metal lunch boxes as we watched some Chinese guy play with a yo-yo and sell them to us for a $1.00.

WIWGU John Cameron Swayze hawked Timex watches with .... "it takes a licking and keeps on ticking"

When I was growing up...my life was magical...I had the most loving, nurturing, compassionate, fun and always comforting parents...Parents who were present in every moment of my life...there was never a day when I didnt feel very loved...

I miss those times so much...

When I was growing up kids didn't eat Tide pods, boys played in the mud and Fraggle Rock was on TV.

You played anywhere in the neighborhood as long as you came home when the street lights came on.

My dad would pile us all in the car, beach chairs in the trunk, and we'd to to the drive-in on Saturday night, lay on the roof (yeah, only my mom used the chairs) and watch a double feature.

Being the littlest one, I was always in my pajamas so I could fall asleep whenever and they could just carry me to bed when we got home.

When I was growing up we would go to my grandparents farm and run through cornfields or have adventures in the woods on the other side of the house, or go down the road for miles (or what seemed like miles) to the neighbors pond and dairy farm. These two elderly sisters would give us milk and cookies while they called up to the house to let them know where we were, and to fetch us since it was a long way home.

When I was growing up I would tie an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time.

When I was growing up, the kids on the street recognized the musical tune from both the bakery cart (donuts!) and ice cream truck from a LONG way off. it gave us just enough time to run home, beg mom for money, and get back to get the treats as the cart drove on our street.
