When Darkness Falls

Amelia looked scared and said, "I know I'm leaving a lot out. You know basically what happened. Tell me you wouldn't be freaked out. Leola killed Fry. Fry and the blonde guy kidnapped me under Leola's orders. The man with Leola messed up my hand. I can't tell you who got me out of there but I'm sure if you put two and two together you will figure it out. I was in the back room where you found Fry and no shots were fired there. I don't know how we got out of there so easily."

DeSoll glared at Amelia for long, long seconds in such a way that it made her feel like she was back at the academy again.
"Half of this is bullshit." he said bluntly. "I'm not sure what the other half is but I don't like it. Do you have anything I can use as proof for any of your claims? Anything that links your case, the church fires and Fry's death together besides your hunch? Are you at least willing to visit a sketch artist so we can see who these mystery people are?"

"Damnit Amelia, I should drag you and your friend here down to the station, right now and get some anwsers out of you both." he sighed. "If I hadn't been looking over your shoulders for two years now Amelia, but I guess I have a hunch too... so i'm not going to. I'm gonna check some things out myself and see what comes up. As for you, you are on administrative leave as of now. I expect that you'll stay in town until I get ahold of you."

He got up to leave but cast a warning glance back at Amelia. "And so help me detective, " he whispered. "if I find out that you're involved in this, that your playing me, you will pray that Internal Affairs gets ahold of you before I do."

Amelia was starting to feel more intimidated by DeSoll and wanted to tell him everything. The only thing stopping her was the threat of being sent to a mental institution.

"I've told you as much as I can right now, sir. I can't tell you anything more until you have more of a look around. Just watch out for anyone who acts really superstitious towards churches and religious symbols. My sister is a good artist. I could have her sketch who I can remember unless you would prefer that I come in to give a description."

When he got up to leave he made his parting remarks and she said, "Yes, sir."

"Charming," Dahmnall said releasing his grip on his gun "I wish I had a daughter so i could forbid her to marry him. Though he does seem to have some concept of honor." Dahmnall said moving over to her. "So what now?"

Amelia

Amelia turned to Dahmnall and said, "We get out of here before he changes his mind or something goes wrong. We should go back to the apartment and get some things then drop Elizabeth off at school."

"Very well, My cousin Sean is picking up my uncle and taking him to my grandparents house." Dahmnall said. "Let's go then."

Amelia dropped Elizabeth and Padrig off at the college and drove off. She turned to Dahmnall and said, "I feel better knowing that someone will be watching Liz. Do you want to go have lunch?"

"Only if they have guiness on tap, and only if you let me pay." Dahmnall said to her smiling. How can my smile look, with only one eye? he wondered to himself

Amelia

Amelia laughed and gave his hand a squeeze. "Seeing how I got the last one, that would only be fair. But I'll go along with all of that if you know where we can go."

"Aye, that i do." Dahmnall said "O'brians pub, best chipper in town." he said and gave her directions

Amelia

Amelia followed the directions that Dahmnall had given her and noticed that things were feeling a little uncomfortable between the two of them. They had a lot to talk about and hopefully they would be able to.

"Here we are." Dahmnall said. "Parkings in back." he squeezed her hand gently, wondering what the coming talk would bring

"I'm glad things went so well with DeSoll. I think maybe he can offer some help." Amelia found herself trying to keep the conversation away from talk about their relationship. With everything that was going on, she wasn't really sure how she felt about him.

They entered the restaurant, it was simple and clean, a long bar, a few dartboards, a jukebox in the corner near a pool table. The Dining room had a nice turf fire in the fireplace, giving off the comforting aroma of a real irish pub. The Television sets had satellite feeds that played the hurling and gaelic football championships that were going on in Ireland. Dahmnall got caught up for a moment as a hurler from Donegal trucked a Derry man "YESSSS, THATS HOW YA HIT EM LAD!!" he yelled.

Amelia glared at the t.v. and began to question if she would have to worry about getting into any serious conversations here. She sat down at a table and took a look around.

A waitress came over to the table. "Hello lad," she said to Dahmnall pleasently. "You haven't been here in days, you missed the beer pong championship." "Aye I'm sorry Catherine." he said "Could you tell Will to turn off the tv's?" "Of course," she said "what can i get ya?" "Pint of guiness for me, chips, corned beef, colcannon, and bangers as well." he said "and bring sodabread if youd be so kind love," he added "What would you like Ami?"

Amelia

Amelia laughed and said,"Seeing how I didn't understand half of what you said, I'll have a burger and some water, Catherine."

After taking the order, Catherine asked Dahmnall what happened to his eye. He made some excuse but Amelia caught how uncomfortable the question made him. When the waitress left, Amelia turned to Dahmnall and asked, "So if neither of our lives are threatened can we still call this a date?"

Dahmnall laughed, his deep rumbling laugh. "Aye, i think we can, bit of a change ain't it?" he said, he took Ami's hand across the table. "Tis a nice change though" he said.

Amelia smiled at his laugh and said, "It is a nice change. Dahmnall..." Amelia starting fidgeting and trying to think of how to proceed and finally said, "I like being with you."

Dahmnall had a feeling about what was coming, "I like to be with you as well, Ami." he said blessed mary and all the saints, he thought I sound like I'm in high school

Amelia leaned across the table and gave him a quick kiss, not wishing to draw too much attention to them. "So what is going to happen tonight. Do we hide out or start looking for Leola?"

"We start looking, probably not too much legwork tonight, mostly getting the word out and suchlike." Catherine came back with his beer and Ami's water, "Food wont be much longer loves." she said then walked away again. "Grandda, as our patriarch will call the patriarchs of the other slayer clans, let them know whats up. We also check newspapers, the internet, informants, even tabloids to see if we can spot anything that could be a clue. This bitch is clearly not your run of the mill minor Vampyre lord, shes got some power behind her. Familars, lesser vamps, etc." he said taking a long sip of beer. "Therein is her weakness, when you have "little people" as it were, you have a threat. Because little people, make big mistakes." he said

"I'm going to get Liz to draw up some pictures of the people I saw. That should help. Maybe someone will recognize them and be able to tell us more." Amelia said while sipping her water. "That is quite the network you have there. You said that most of your family was involved with this kind of stuff? That must be hard sending your children out knowing what can get them."

"Aye, the whole family is involved. We do what we do because we were born to do it." Dahmnall said drinking some more beer and lighting a cigarette. "I have been to more funerals then I can count. But there is an evil that we need to destroy, and knowing what we know we couldnt see an honorable way to avoid doing it. Anyway, I probably wont go out too much tonight, the family wants me to take it easy for a bit. I've been in some serious fighting recently and its definitely showing." he said pointing to the patch where his eye once was. "But I can still work some support tonight, sharpening blades, cleaning guns and so on. I'm sorry this night may not be too exciting for you."

Amelia listened to what Dahmnall was saying with more than a little bit of dread. It sounded so bleak. It sounded so much like what that monster was saying last night. Her job wasn't exactly safe but at least her entire family wasn't involved with it. What would it mean to get involved with Dahmnall? Could they have a future together? Would that mean burying him early or any children they had?

Amelia put her glass down and said, "I've had enough excitement to last for a long time. Please excuse me."

Amelia got up from the table and headed towards the bathroom.
