When Commenters Demand Gross Realism

I recently received a very lengthy anonymous comment on one of my story chapters complaining about the "impossibly clean birth" at the end and how unrealistic it is. I want to reply "no shit", but that's actually the essence of his complaint. Using the fact that he apparently dated a midwife as his source, the commenter explains in detail all of the gross things that actually happen during delivery and asks about the whereabouts of the umbilical cord (which he misspells as "chord") as well as the placenta in the scene.

As a woman who is days away from giving birth for the fourth time, I am well aware of how gross and unglamorous labor actually is, and that babies are messy, wriggly little things when fresh out of the birth canal, so the commenter isn't wrong. My question is: why on earth would anyone WANT this part to be depicted realistically in a smut story?

This is obviously just one commenter out of many, and since I enjoy including breeding as a theme in my stories, they basically demand a birth scene (albeit a sanitized one) to complete the kink. Even so, it still baffles me as to why anyone would complain about a scene like this being too sanitized. I've had female commenters post about the birth scenes in my stories, and nobody criticized them for not being gross enough, because why would anyone want that in a story they're reading for pleasure (I assume)?

Has anyone else had complaints like this on their stories? Somebody criticizing the sex scenes for proceeding too smoothly and painlessly? The fact that the guy never has trouble getting hard whenever the story requires it? The fact that STIs are never mentioned? Pointing out that real men don't have nine-inch dicks?

Not gonna defend the rest of it, but "umbilical chord" is a valid albeit uncommon spelling. For instance, definition 3.1 from Merriam-Webster's entry for "chord" points to "CORD sense 3a", which is "an anatomical structure (such as a nerve or tendon) resembling a cord especially umbilical cord sense 1a".

Similarly, Collins "chord", third definition: "anatomy: a variant spelling of cord".

Not usually, but I do occasionally see the "punish cheating spouses" contingent calling for adulterers to get afflicted with STIs. It's obnoxious there too.

My instinctive reaction to complaints about unrealistic details here is to recall somebody noting, “If I wanted to watch old, wrinkled, fat people having sex, I”d move my mirror.”

In any case, KL, never fret about comments from somebody you wouldn’t ask for advice in the first place.

Yeah, I don't understand why someone wants so much realism in a fictionalized sex story. This happens in the Anal category as well. He is an "expert" Even though you've given birth three times so far, he'll always know more than you. Sadly, he's not alone here on this site.

2. Verisimilitude can have its uses, even in a smut story

I couldn't agree more. His comment fits in the bad woman's anatomy category. Clearly positioning himself as an authority just because he's a man.

I mean he's not wrong that it can get messy, although not quite as messy as he seems to think. But as you noted, I've experienced this multiple times, and although I wouldn't trade those experiences for anything, I do prefer the "impossibly clean" version in my fiction.

I find it funny that you find such a comment funny. It seems perfectly valid to me.

Forget incest; imagine you wrote a group sex story. You get a comment complaining that none of those five people you put together and let them have a wild orgy is using any form of STD protection or birth control. Would you also think it’s funny, because why would this reader focus on such trifles when — OMG! — there are five people going at it at the same time?!

I’m guessing you wouldn’t, and you would be right. One could hardly fault readers for taking for granted the fact that there is group sex in their group sex story. But if so, then why is it weird or funny when readers gloss over the fact there is incest in their incest story?

It’s the same thing either way. The kink comes with the category.

I have gotten a lot of that. I tend to have a lot of ATM in my stories and have gotten several comments about how it ruins the teeth and is bad for mouth hygiene and how no girl would actually do that.

What I have learned is that I have no place writing sexual fantasies on a sex site, I should write realism.

It is always men and they always know more about women and their sexual desires than me.
But I have accepted that. They will always know better and me as a woman need to be told how it is.

Having the son-father there at the birth is novel, and witnessing how painful the end-game of ecstatically cum-drenching her cunt is for the seed-carrier, that's also fairly innovative. But the reality of their joyous fucking's consequences end there. For that was one impossibly clean birth, the bathtub she delivered in could almost be seen as a metaphor for how immaculate it was. Giving birth is invariably wet and messy. It's also very bloody. There's also the matter of bodily functions. Although the author mentions her prior 'emptying her bladder' that would be like a few drips of water from a crack in a dyke. In terms of her bodily-functions, soon the dyke will split open and the floodgates will be overwhelmed. I once dated a midwife and she told me how many women wouldn't have their partner at the birth for fear of pooping in front of him . Giving her a strong enema some hours before didn't guarantee a crap-free delivery. She also told me that at the posher maternity hospitals the facemask the father is forced to wear during deliveries is impregnated with deodorant so he won't have the embarassment of having to smell the birth. It's at best 'ambitious' that the author tries to turn the delivery into a sexy form of foreplay: "he gently stroked and licked her erect nipples". For at this point a ball of flesh four times the size of her vagina is trying to squeeze through a hole a weasel couldn't get through. But then I suppose fantasy breedings beget fantasy birthings. No mention of an umbilical chord, is it still attached? And the "gurgle in her belly" postpartum that she still had to push out between her legs. What did they do with her placenta? Store it in the fridge and sprinkle it on their pizza some months later, when they're going at it for a third bump in her belly.?? In summary very suburban, very spotless breeding-birthing fantasy.

Misogynistic cowardly ignorant mansplaining.
