What's your wedding dance?

Almost every week on a Wednesday I get an email from my bandleader telling me the wedding dance I'm going to have to learn for the upcoming wedding gig. This week it was a painfully bittersweet Burt Bacharach song. Sometimes it's just a painfully awful song. But whatever it is, I feel a sense of responsibility not to fuck it up (although I'm often tempted), as I guess it's an important part of an important day for the poor bast- I mean the happy couple starting out on Lifes Biggest Journey.

I wanted to have a cow at my wedding, but the Rabbi was worried that it would eat all the the dill pickles and forget to bring a yarmuke.

Actually, we had the house band for the Officer's Club on base. They were OK, but the female lead singer sang an octave lower than the male backups.

Our song became "Longer Than" though it wasn't my choice, and I still remember her lower notes reverberating throughout the hall as I tried to dance with my dad. My parents learned ballroom dancing for their 25th anniversary and my dad is quite skilled, so I spent my time breathlessly giggling and trying not to step on my dress because I was quite tipsy on champagne.

The video of the reception is sweet and embarrassing.

The song was - well, it just was.
