Sell, sell, sell!!! That's what t.v. is all about. They spend millions of dollars to "strut their stuff" for us. They are concerned with demographics. They have focus groups. They do surveys. There's just no end to it.

Well, my favorite commercial is for "the Bassomatic" as done by Dan Ackroid on SNL, about 20 years ago. So, what's your's?? And, BTW, have you ever felt inclined to buy something based solely on a t.v. ad? I actually bought a juicer, once. Anybody want it??

Speaking of the juicer, I LOVED the parody Jim Carrey did on that infomercial back on In Living Color.

I bought a beer machine ;)

That Air Force commercial played during the Olympics. Talk about yanking your heart strings.

I can't remember the name of the dog food exactly ... but it was the only commercial I cried at in a "non" pregnant state...

It starts with a little puppy (we will call him Rover for the purposes of this reply... keeping it simple...) positioned at the bottom of the stairs... and a little girl at the top calling out to him: "Come here Rover... come here boy!" ... She is smiling... the puppy comes up the stairs in a cute puppy-like way...

Then it rolls over to the next scene... a young dog at the bottom of the stairs, (obviously the same dog but in adulthood) bounding up the stairs when a pre-teen aged girl calls out the same dog name.

Then it moves on to this really old dog very slowly coming up the stairs when this college aged woman calls out to him in a patient voice....

*sniff sniff*

Then it says something cheesy (the commercial guy.. you know.. that background talking guy who is always there somewhere?) "For all stages of YOUR dog's life... there will be "such and such" dog food to help him/her through..." whatever whatever...

Anyway, *sigh*

It's my favorite! :)

It was a US Healthcare commercial

A pregnant woman was being wheeled in on a gurney, so obviously in labor, her husband beside her, and she was crying and there was a song in the background......Someday he'll grow up, someday he'll breathe the fresh air, someday he'll stand tall, someday he'll take care of me.....

oh man I bawled

OH I WISH I WERE AN OSCAR MEYER WIENER....THAT IS WHAT I TRULY WANT TO BE....CAUSE IF I WERE AN OSCAR MEYER WEINER...EVERYONE WOULD BE IN LOVE WITH ME

My favourite TV commercial was shown here in Australia and New Zealand. Its selling Toyota 4 wheel drives. Its filmed on a farm with the haphazzard farmer using the vehicle to pull a tree stump out..and it lands on the chook house. The farmer replies "bugger". Then it shows trying to pull a cow out of a mud hole...he eases the clutch out on the toyota and next you hear a cow and see half a cow flying through the air. It goes through 4 or 5 little scenarios. The last one shows the wife with her nice new washing on the line. The famer comes along gets in his toyota and moves off calling the dog. He moves off spraying the nice clean washing, the wife says bugger and the dog jumps up but misses and lands in the mud. You see his lips say bugger as well.
Very funny add that works well in Australia and New Zealand

I love that one. And I can't remember the name of the dog food, but the dog's name is Casey. I cry over that one too. Then i find my dog and make him lay on the couch by me while i pet and brush him for the next 2 hours. :)

Zoom zoom zoom...

Hey hey hey hey...

gets me and my daughter dancing every time!

Well, I'm really suggestible. So if I happen to watch an infomercial or a shopping channel long enough, I start to get an uncontrollable urge to pick up the phone, grab my credit card, and order at least one of whatever they are selling.

Usually I manage to come to my senses before actually ordering.

Like that cookware that cooks a stew from raw to done in 5 minutes. Hmmmm. Wonder where I put that phone number.

Zoom, zoom, zoom

Hey, come and buy my car!
Da da da dah da da,

hey, hey, hey, hey, hey

The one I remember is one that advertised Rainier beer here in the northwest. It starts with a picture of a paved road with mount Rainier framed in the background. You hear a motorcycle engine and as it comes into the frame the rider starts to accelerate and shift. The engine sounds like it's saying Rainier beer. Something like, Raaaaaa-(shift)-neeeeear-(shift)-beeeeer. The last as he disappears around a corner. Very simple but very effective for those of us who ride. That damned thing pops back into my head almost every time I'm astride my machine. And it ran here on TV in the early 70's!

Fantasy Goddess and Sweet Cherry... yay.. .someone understands!! *sigh*

Maya Angelou and a whole bunch of promising young African American teenagers reciting "I rise" for the United Negro College Fund. Having been raised a-la Steve Martin's The Jerk as a promising young African American teenager, it gives me chills.

And the marine running through the maze. I love that one.

HOW THIS FOR RERUNS??

I could swear that I posted this a couple of weeks ago.But since you asked AGAIN.
The Snickers commercials that mocked Bush (elephant) & Gore (donkey)
Monster.com: Kids telling what they want to be when they grow up ("I want to be a YES man')
Snickers: When the football team had to hear prayers from a group of priests of different religion in order to be more "politically correct".
Kia: When the host claims that Kia was voted the #1 car in America. Then he explains that, "We, too, has some chad problems". And they show a drunken guy with his shirt open bust into a room and scream. Three old ladies who are counting votes yell out in fear and anger, "Chad, don't do that."

The ducks and the AFLAC commercials
The frogs and the Budweiser commercials
That Old Coke commercial where they're singing "I'd like to buy the world a coke and keep it company...."

My two favorite commercials:

The snickers one where you see this guy standing outside a door talking to a panda in a magazine exhorting the virtues of said panda and saying, "I know some co-workers of mine that would like to have lunch with you!" Then he presses the magazine up to the door and makes it swirl around chanting, "Pretty pretty dancing!" Then it cuts to the people on the other side of the door, looking terrified, unwilling to leave the room and have to face lunch with this guy. The voice over guy says, "Gonna be somewhere for awhile? Have a snickers." Then you see the guy again, who says,"Do you know what pandas have for lunch? Yeah, they have bamboo."

I love that one. And this one, but I don't know if you guys have seen it or noticed it, it's sort of directed at the younger generation:

It was for the new Tekken Fighters video game. It was an old Japanese samurai movie, except they had dubbed the soundtrack (very badly on purpose). In itself, it wasn't very funny, except for the very end. Okay, there is this young samurai, who says, "Master, am I ready to fight the Tekken fighters?" and the master says, "Young grasshopper, you are strong, but the Tekken fighters are stronger." Then they show scenes from the video game. The young samurai says, "I will beat the Tekken fighters!" And the old master guy laughs and sort of turns his head away, but when he turns his head away, the dubbed soundtrack makes him say in disgust:

"Yecchh..."

Made me bust out laughing every time! Okay, maybe you had to be there.
