I know what you mean sweetie...I have trouble ignoring it too but once you get used to overlooking that kind of stuff you have a lot more fun and will find them easy to ignore.

There's nothing wrong with not wanting to read any kind of post - be it flirty, flamey, sentimental, cynical, political, sports-related, etc.

The trouble starts when one tries to stop others from making those sort of posts.

Read & respond to what you like, ignore the rest. :)

well...i'm sure most people know that this is a not so clever take off of the foot(whatever)'s thread...it's not meant to be taken seriously..i love you guys..and i have a thicker skin now then i did...even a month ago...

amelia the worst thing is when there is a board fight between regulars ... seeing two people you respect and like slinging insults between eachother is hard ... especially when it snowballs and more people get involved

Coersion and censorship are out.

Nothing wrong with a bit of peer pressure, in the form of expressing an honest reaction, including a desire for the person to stop what is found to be objectionable. That, too, comes under the heading of free speech, I think, Laurel. Agree?

It can be fun messing with their heads. But, like was said, I'd rather have some fun conversation with sweet, kind, caring people. From Texas.;)

Oh, absolutely. I will say that what I've seen to be most effective on this board is to ignore and not propagate that which you don't like. When people start pressure campaigns to, for example, "stop flamey posts", it usually ends up in a big flame war. When everyone gets up in arms about trolls and makes dramatic anti-troll speeches, trolls sprout up everywhere. When we all roll our eyes at trolls and move on, they die out.

If you look through Lit BB history, you'll see I'm right. The biggest nastiest threads are those where users are fighting with other users over whether they should or shouldn't flame/troll/flirt/whatever.

The most effective form of peer pressure is to fill the boards with threads you enjoy and let the others die on the vine. Flaming flamers only feeds the flames.

I know this will go unheeded because it seems to simple to be true, but trust me - it is. That said, if everyone wants to go flame the flamers, go right ahead. Just don't complain when the BB is nothing but flame posts from the war that will ensue.

Threads like that don't bother me at all.
I kinda like finding them! :D
I don't care what people like Footman and HighSchoolJerk say, and most of the time I actually find it amusing.

I too am learning the ropes of just brushing off the crap and going for the fun. I here for one reason, you are here for another...etc...etc...

I'm a blunt person with few social skills and a general unconcern with the feelings of others. I like bitching and complaining about things that irritate me.

I am, of course, the bad person on the board.

If someone is stupid, why should I refrain from pointing that out? If someone calls me a fucking bitch and tells me to shut the fuck up, why should I not hound him over the board and start a few threads for the express purpose of informing him, rather truthfully, that he's ignorant.

People have no compunction about saying, "KM is such a fucking bitch." or any number of things back and forth to each other about other posters in PM, IM, and email. I'm not nearly so vicious. I do it on the board so those people know who is their friend and who isn't.

What's wrong with not wanting to see that? Absolutely nothing. I cherish my own delusions, as well. What's wrong with wanting to see it?

Exactly.

This isn't to say you should stand idly by and let someone be unnecessarily cruel to another, or "turn the other cheek" when someone attacks you. But like marksgirl said, people come here for different reasons. Some people like heated debate; others are less conflict oriented. And yes, there will be assholes here. There will be people you don't like here. This board will never ever be 100% what you want it to be from top to bottom.

I really believe the board is big enough for all of us. I think this is a good thread, because amelia expressed her opinion without doing what some might have done - jumping in on the flame threads and yelling at people to stop. Like I said before, I have NEVER seen that approach work here.

Would you shut the fuck up, already, kitty?:p Ya know I loves ya, Laurel.
