i can give you a nice simple philosophical explaination of string theory....imagine in 3-space 2 rolled up carpets separate from one another. ants can crawl anywhere on their own carpet but cannot travel to the other carpet......told ya it was simple........take many many many many math classes and the physics will make more sense......this is because mathematics is the language of nature.............my undergrad is EE, but it wasnt until grad school that i became obsessed with math......hope you are well and never give up....

My academic focus is more on anthropology and general philosophy. I've taken some hardcore philosophy courses that implemented some concepts found in high level math, statistics, and science, but they were pretty much distilled down to an easier level in order to analyze the basic structure and the consequences of that particular structure. The only real hands-on math I've ever dealt with in philosophy was through logical proofs, which were actually rather enjoyable and comparable to geometric proofs.

I find things to be fascinating, but I understand the limits of my own comprehension.

I don't agree with the first part of your statement here, for one thing if you think it is only possible to have an intellectual conversation with someone on the same or higher level than you, where does that leave the person who is on the higher level? Do you think they are fully enjoying that intellectual conversation, since the person they are talking with is apparently on a lesser level.

I don't think you need to be an intelligent person to participate and enjoy in an intellectual conversation. To be able to discuss a myrid of topics in an intelligent manner isn't a gift many people have actually, I mean, we do run out of subjects that we specialize in eventually, and who wants to discuss the same topics repeatedly?

I personally enjoy conversations with anyone who takes the effort to have one. I mean, even the dumbest person you ever meet will have a different perspective on an issue, and although they might not convey it in the best manner, it still might give you a new insight on at least one topic.

I never said I'd stop learning! Holy moley would that drive me up the wall. That's what makes me a braniac dag nabbit!

Believe me, if I had the patience, time, effort, and money to take courses on those things, purchase the relevant texts, and become talented at it, I would. However, I'm quite comfortable within my current framework! I love the subject areas I'm studying right now. Researching my senoir thesis has been among the most fulfilling and entertaining things I've done during my time at college. I am sure that I'll feel much the same way when I go to law school, which I'm positive I'll struggle with at first.

To each their own, in my opinion. We gotta do what makes us happy, you know?

I took the LSAT back in December. There was a ton of formal logic that was present on the exam, although put into words as opposed to symbols. My philosophy major required me to take a class on formal logic, which actually was fun since I was so good at geometric proofs. I was quite familiar with a lot of what was on that exam, needless to say.

i really dont know much about it either.....i am more an applied mathematician (partial dq's/pertabation theory) as opposed to particle physicist. i have colleagues that could put you to sleep discussing it, however.......if you want i can do some digging and get back to you....

It always bothers me, but I simply couldn't resist. I mean, I very rarely take short cuts when typing. I even usually fully type out "be right back" and even a reason why I'm depearting the computer.. But that's just me. (And I avidly avoid "lol", just find that one weird.. I'd rather use *laugh*, or other similar actions)

I've been online for so long now that certain habits and tendencies in my typing have been really hard to break. I still use lol and brb, as well as various smileys, even though I've been trying to stop using them since I was 17 (5 years ago). Old habits die hard, ya know?

So, what braniac topic should we talk about now? We seem to have scared everyone off quite nicely, haha.

I never really got in the habit of using the shortcuts, been chatting online for nearly 10 years now and was already a moderate typer by the time I started, so saw no need. The only time I use "brb" or "afk" is while playing online games or in a real rush to step away from the comp.
