what's the deal with certain posters/Etiquette question

Well, I can't sleep, I'm in a cranky mood, and life kind of sucks right now. Might as well bitch on the net.

So, what is up with people posting pictures obviously taken from a professional site, then posting here as if it's them. Do they think no one will notice? Really, what pleasure is derived by doing this? Add to that, all the people who start posting about how gorgeous they are, then turning around and attacking anyone who calls shenanigans? Don't you think it was obvious the moment the person refused to put up any picture of themselves with a paper saying "I am so and so. Hello Lit"? Isn't it a little peculiar that everything they post looks professionally done, as opposed to 95% of the people on here? Not to dismiss the quality of some people skills, but you can tell if someone is taking a candid shot, versus posing for a cheapie porn site.

And now, a question (I'm genuinely curious. This doesn't bug me so much as make me wonder. And if this is a common topic I've somehow missed, I apologize).

What is up with the people who come to the amateur pics section and start threads where they only post pics of their faces? Not erotic or artistic pictures, just webcam pics of their face. Not to sleight them, as I've seen several people do it and get quite a following, but if they just came here to talk, why didn't they just go to the general board? It's intrigued me since I've started coming here, over ten years ago.

Again, if this is a hot button issue, I apologize. I honestly haven't seen anything.

*Edited to also ask this question

Is there proper etiquette for bringing up to someone that it seems fairly obvious that they look like they just went to some webcam site and stole a bunch of screencaps? Alternatively, what would you recommend to try and expose them? Or is it better to simply let them post and let their fans have the illusion that they're real?

Generally people who post fake photos are spotted fast. Sometimes they get reported and their threads removed.
I have no idea where the pleasure lay but then there's so many people around us every day that try to pass for something different than they really are, no?
Don't let it bug you too much :)

As to what people post... well, people will post what they feel comfortable with posting, there's threads for all tastes in AmPics. If it's just face photos, so be it.
Why not the GB you ask... hm, perhaps because people in AmPics are much more friendly and amiable.

re

We live in a world where people would rather pretend to be someone, anyone other than themselves. Whether insecure about themselves physically or not willing to let down their shield and become vulnerable on a personal level.

I don't have so much of a problem with the people who just post face pics but those that have threads on the AM Pics board and never post any pics! If you're gonna have a thread where you simply check in and chat with others, do it on the General board or on the playground.

Fantasy Land

A fake avatar doesn't bug me. That may be a display of their fantasy or ideal. But those who post a series of fake pics without a disclosure has more "issues" than the rest of us pervs here on Lit.

don't hate me cuz I'm good.

Well! I wonder who you could be talking about here! ;)

I should say that I've been slated a little for supposedly using professional shots, being 'fake', a 'bullshitter', and so on, so forgive me for how self-centered this will sound if you're actually not referring to me at all, but I've had that kind of comical crap before, so I'll reply...
Firstly, I agree with you completely - I don't understand why someone would snatch a load of pictures of other people, upload them to the net, and pretend it is them. I really don't. You'd have to be desperate to do something like that and I've witnessed girls do this before -- the girl (I think she was like 17) was actually proven to be faking her identity, and it was one of the most cringe-worthy things to see...

However (from personal experience here!), do not be surprised if anybody decides to opt out of stooping to the level which requires them going out of their way to take snaps in the act of hopelessly proving themselves. Although I found it quite hysterical at the time to write a sign, (which is the furthest I got), it really is a pathetic act: can you imagine writing a nice big sign in felt tip pen, setting up your camera, tripod, self-timer, and posing whilst holding up your sign for some random, bossy, internet arsehole, because merely this loser on the internet thinks you're faking who are? Hell, even if I get a thousand people cry me a river about some false accusation, I won't pander myself to their doubts.

Personally, I take pictures for the pure enjoyment of taking pictures, (one self-confessed exhibitionist here!), and sharing them with people who enjoy them - never as a hopeless act of self-defense against poor folk who have nothing better to do than to baselessly accuse me of some random thing, or who are upset that my pictures look too good to be my own.
These are sometimes souls who can easily become spiteful and ratty - therefore, why do they think I'd even want to do anything for them? let alone grace them with a photo done especially for them at their request? I mean.. I'll gladly do requests for people with whom there is decent mutual respect! ;) ~ but for assholes who want me to take pictures of myself while holding up a sign for them?.... I don't think so.

I find it sad that apparently 'professional' equates to anyone with a digital camera, somewhere to balance the camera, and a self-timer.
That's all it is. I'm basically an amateur model / photographer with a tiny bit of photographic knowledge, who prefers using a nicer camera than a webcam. C'est tout.
So I'll patiently wait for them to prove me wrong (because it's their problem, afterall!) before I go out of my way to do anything for them. :)
Hahaha... and I wonder -- if they're so terribly insistent on me being a faker, why can't they prove it? Hmmm, kind of vital, non?

...Woo! Lookit me getting it all off my chest! :nana:

It helps with ambiguity. I have a real pic somewhere on my profile usually. I personally like to see the real pics.

I don't know why a woman would feel the need to do that. She could look like a hobbit (sideburns and big fucking hairy feet and all) and there'd still be a hundred guys going "Oh my god you're so sexy. You're a very sexy and special person." And on and on.

*Rant*

Actually, I hadn't even seen your pics when I posted this, so no insult was meant. However, I do find a huge issue with ANYONE who's photos look like they were taken off another site, and then refuse to take the 5 minutes to write *PERSON X ON LIT. HI EVERYBODY!* on a piece of paper, put their face next to it, hold the cam at arms length and snap the shot, all the while claiming they would be bringing themselves down to some random assholes level if they did. There was another poster on here a while ago who got extremely popular. Every time someone would request proof, she would always go off about how she didn't need to prove herself to some random assholes on the net. A ton of people jumped to her side, and used a lot of energy to defend her. It was later found out she HAD been stealing all the photos, and it really wasn't her.

Don't get me wrong, it's your life, do with it what you will. But don't get indignant because 5 minutes time is too much for you to stop people from bugging you about whether it's really you or not.
