What's the best piece of advice you've ever been given?

"Never eat yellow snow" - My dad

"Don't Worry. Be Happy" - That song, by that guy

Shut up and eat your jellied duck's web; there are children starving in West Virginia.--Chairman Mao

But did I listen?

'don't put all your eggs in one basket' -mom
'don't count your chickens before they hatch'- mom
'listen to elders and children, and ignore everyone in between'- my own philosophy
'reach for that star, and when you get it, reach for a higher one to add to your collection'- mom
'all kindness you offer will be given back to you.. all pain that you cause you will receive 10fold'- grandma

It's in spanish, but I'll translate it as well as I can.(They say it in english too, but... I don't know.. )
"People aren't like gold coins, not every one's going to love you. So don't expect them to."-Mom
JB :rose:

the day i left to join the air force my dad told me this: on payday buy all the cigs, shaving cream, deodorant, etc. that you need to last you until next payday and you'll never be without.

it's just as cheap to keep the top half of the gas tank full as the bottom half....dad

always try to fix something yourself before you take it to someone else to fix...if you fuck it up it'll only cost another 10% to fix it over what it would have cost to start with...me

Always try to qualify your statements, because you might be wrong. My pretty 4th grade teacher taught me that, with a disturbing story from her youth to illustrate her point.

But it's advice I always try to remember! :)

Don't piss on an electric fence.

A college roomate who grew up on a farm.

'a good way to judge how a man will treat you is to observe how he treats his mother and his dog. If they are loved and treated well, you've found someone who'll be good to you'-mom.. and she was SO RIGHT!

Listen with your heart but think with your head..- My Sister

Similar to vixenshe....

When dating a woman, observe how she treats the waiter when dining out...she'll be treating you the same way six months after marriage...

"Be yourself. When all is said and done, you're all you have." - A lot of people. A whole lot.

"I wish you'd stop fucking whining and take some personal responsibility for improving your life. I'm sick and tired of listening to this victim shit." - Someone in a chat room talking to someone else.

"Don't trust anyone." - grandfather (glad I trusted him)

"You know...with hands like those, you oughta try spanking a girl sometime." - a girl

Love yourself unconditionally.

I learned that from a sermon at a UU church. I had always *loved* myself... but still couldn't figure out what was wrong. I hadn't been loving myself unconditionally

Treat others as you want to be treated. ~ It's a pretty well known piece of advice. :)

And it's generally a good piece of advice, unless your sadistic or something.

Another good one, Your right to swing your arms ends at the next mans nose. Or something like that.

Waste of Worry: My Gramma

although this was always 'i told you it would work out'... but its there in case you dont listen to "dont Worry, be happy"

War is over if you want it - Lennon

If you aren't making the decisions in your life, then who is ? - I don't remember who said that too me. But it's always stuck.

Love yourself. Love everyone that you can.

Forgive if nessecary.

NEVER forget.

It's in my sig line.

Sometimes advice is worth exactly what you paid for it.

If it's free it's probably not worth much. That goes double if it's not asked for. Always weigh what your told.

I forget who said it. Hell, I might have read it.

My fav.

"Don't believe everything you see and believe even less of what you hear.";)

(or something like that, but you get the picture).

Can't remember who said it or where, but I always keep this saying close, especially when people who gossip are nearby.
