The question now placed before ye AH irregulars relates only to characters in Literotica stories, not real life--honest.

WHAT MAKES A LITEROTICA CHARACTER A SLUT?

In real life, this is a slippery, constantly changing, perhaps antiquated moral judgement. Everything else being equal (culture, country, socio-economic group, etc.) the definition for a character in a historical story would probably differ from those used today. Therefore, it might help to limit the question to Lit stories with contemporary settings.

So, in your opinioin, what (if anything) makes a character a slut?

Enjoy.

What makes a fictional character a slut?

Same thing that makes a real-life person a slut.

That help? ;)

raph, running away.

I remember when my daughter was entering high school. There were only two kinds of girl then, for her little group of Honors kids: sluts and virgins. They looked down on each other.

Virgin is at least a technical term we have a referent for.

But all non-virgins can't really be sluts; they musta been misled somehow. I never believed in sluts. I knew a girl whom they all said was one; her attitude toward sex was frank and free and open, and she had high standards. She didn't seem to fit the archetype. I came to the conclusion it was not a real animal. Sort of like a unicorn, or a roc.

That is a loaded question. Some would say a promiscous woman is a slut. She could also be defined as such by her wardrobe or make-up.

I would think that in the lit context sexual activity with or alluding to significant amounts of sexual activity with multiple partners would be the qualifying definition.

Very often, at least in the loving wives category, the author starts off by telling you she is a slut and thus sparing himself having to write about more than one encounter or give a defintition, allowing the reader to apply whatever definition he/she has.

Ummmmm . . .

It could be said with today's ultra-moral elitists that a slut is a woman who dares to enjoy sex as much as a man.

Personally I always felt that a slut was just a bitch.

That kind of woman uses sex to help get her way in things (to further her career, steal your boyfriend, ruin relationships, whatever). Sex for her is about control, and she uses her body as a tool.

Now this has no bearing in any way, shape or form in acting slutty. THAT's a lot more fun!

Bitch is another one.

It's like "niggah," I think. I am a lot more comfortable when a woman uses the term than when a man does.

I like your idea, sweetsub, that it's a sort of sex criminal who fucks for power. That I can see. Thanks.

Mr. Foreskin,

It is difficult to measure how far out from the beach you are while treading water, so perhaps this may help.

It is the Slut Test. You might answer the questions with several different characters/acquaintances in mind, and gage the answer to your question from how they were rated

For you information, “the Slut Test” informed me that I am only 88% slut.

A full 1% of the 9,497,052 participants so far have tested more slutty than I, and of that number, only 18 had ever confessed to fantasizing about "Dom Deluise" as the best sex partner of all time.

It is very interesting how the mere mention of the word slut seems from some of the above to apply only to the female gender. Equality and all that, why aren't we describing the slutty antics of blokes?

Having a working penis automatically means he's a slut. We girlies have to work at it.

Perdita :p

The results are in! You are 59% slutty, which technically makes you a slut. The worldwide average is only 46%.
Based on the 9,497,554 test takers so far: You're sluttier than 77% of the world. You're cleaner than 22% of the world.
FACT: 1,573 women agreed with you, and chose "Gary Oldman" as the best sex option of all time.

--------------
That was a very interesting quiz, I recommend it for men and women. I was disappointed in the prime men listed. Only three of them I like, and several I never heard of. - Perdita

Brad Pitt 385328 (8%)
Josh Hartnett 103185 (2%)
Tom Cruise 99080 (2%)
Ben Affleck 92389 (2%)
Justin Timberlake 84430 (2%)
Eminem 80126 (2%)
Heath Ledger 65601 (1%)
Paul Walker 63059 (1%)
Ryan Phillipe 59288 (1%)
Eric Mccormack 56674 (1%)
Mel Gibson 50894 (1%)
Matt Damon 46789 (1%)
Alex Fiorelli 45172 (1%)
Bill Clinton 42330 (1%)
Freddie Prinze Jr. 41683 (1%)
Sean Connery 37346 (1%)
George Clooney 37116 (1%)
Ryan Ning 36230 (1%)
Sean Williamson 34796 (1%)
Ryan Phillippe 32623 (1%)
Fred Durst 32281 (1%)
Keanu Reeves 29551 (1%)
Johnny Depp 29071 (1%)
Joshua Jackson 28945 (1%)
Nick Carter 27699 (1%)

p.s. Rumply, I can't answer your question, but the best example for me of a slut in a Lit. story would be from LorriLove's one story.

Best Sex Option

Damn! I am really disappointed that I did not make that list! I just won't be happy until I pass Bill Clinton.

Well, I guess the only thing to do is more practice...

I don’t think of the term “Slut” as a derogatory name. In fact I would use it as a term of endearment.
In High School and College during “Guy Talk” sessions about the available women to date, if you asked, “Do any of you know this girl named (What ever her name was.)? And someone might have been out with her or heard something and said, “Yeah, she’s a real slut.”
That was a compliment, it meant that she didn’t have a problem with wanting or having sex. It did not mean that she would do it with anyone who had a penis. A woman who would fuck anybody was referred to as a whore. Even though technically she did not receive payment for the sex.
A slut was a good thing, it didn’t mean she would go out with you or even if she did would sleep with you. It just meant that if things worked out you might get lucky.

Who, who and who?

Just wondering.

Don't bother replying, I'm perfectly capable of Googling. :)

According to the slut test I'm one too.
It said I was 55% slutty
which technically makes you a slut.
The worldwide average is only 46%.
Based on the 9,498,072 test takers so far:
you're sluttier than 69% of the world.
you're cleaner than 29% of the world.

I would say a slut in general seems to be a woman who enjoys sex without the need for romantic love, so she will have sex with anybody that takes her fancy. No need for marriage, commitment or whatever if you don't want that, beyond sharing pleasure.

:)

I am 61% slutty (I thought that was low! :p)
which technically makes me a slut.
The worldwide average is only 46%.

Based on the 9,498,115 test takers so far:
you're sluttier than 82% of the world.
you're cleaner than 17% of the world.

FACT
14,798 women agreed with you, and chose "Russell Crowe" as the best sex option of all time.

I am a slut and I'm happy being a slut. To me it merely means I love sex and am eager to do anything to please my man. I do not view it as a derogatory term in the slightest. I also like slutty men. ;)

As for slutty qualities for a character in a story, I'd say it is a woman who is confident with her own sexuallity and wants to have sex just for the sake of sex. She sees sex as just that and doesn't equate it with committment. It's also what she will do, during sex. If she loves giving BJ's, she's a good slut, and so on...

To me, a slut is someone who looks at another person and sees only their genitals. The slut's sexual pleaure is the only value that matters, and the worth of everything is measured against that.

Sorry!

I truly did not mean to slight any of you pointer types, but the question was about “sluttiness,” which seems to be a measurement applicable only to setter types.

Not to ignore my favourite opposite sex, let me recommend the Jerk Test

It is the opposite of the Wench Test

And before anybody becomes too self-congratulatory, we all can try the Mensa Workout

I am only 46%--and me an erotic writer. Huh. Evidently sluttiness is more than a state of mind.

It is very interesting how the mere mention of the word slut seems from some of the above to apply only to the female gender. Equality and all that, why aren't we describing the slutty antics of blokes?

Well, now, there's a guy who's got a few stories published here in Literotica, but I know him from some other fora I'm in/have been in. He's also a good cyberfriend of mine. He describes himself as a slut on a regular basis. He's also a polyamorist. I've urged him to come here and hang out, but he's also a self-employed businessman, something to do with webpage development or something, and he says nowadays he's too busy even to write, let alone hang out here.

My lover and I have discussed the "slut" subject at length on several occasions. Our definition follows.

Slut (n): 1. a usually derogatory term used by a man to describe a women who is as aggressively sexually active as that man would like to be. 2. any man.
