What's Love and What's Obsession?

Love is patient, kind, confident, unafraid....obsession is crazed, jealous, insecure, petty.

Love is watching your partner yakking with someone across the room and feeling admiration and pride.

Obsession is watching your partner yakking with someone across the room and thinking they want to fuck and you can't turn your back on them or they might.

That chapter in I Corinthians used at weddings is a pretty good summary also.

This is one of the best threads I have ever read, and for once I only have one thing to add. Often, deep down inside, we know the answer, its just that we try to talk ourselves out of it.

Lioness...I really enjoy your threads.

I understand what you're saying here. But just as often we become emeshed in passion and dreams. And giving in, we find that we've walked into a room filled with smoke and mirrors.

No one said the choices would be easy.

I'm sorry, Ish...I'm not even drinking and I'm lost....?????

I like to use the biblical standard myself. I Corintians , chapter 13, verses 4 through 6:

"Love is very patient & kind, never jealous, or envious, never boastful or proud, never haughty, or selfish, or rude. Love does not demand it's own way. It is never irritable or touchy. It does not hold grudges and will hardly ever notice when do it wrong.

It is never glad about injustice, but rejoices whenever truth wins out. If you love someone you will be loyal to him no matter what the cost. You will always believe in him, always expect the best from him, and always stand your ground in defending him."

I think this often comes down to chosing what's best for the other person when value conflicts arrise. I think it shows tremendous strength , rather than being a Milquetoast.

Well said, and conversely it sometimes means walking away as well. I think that selfish is one of the most 'operative' words here.

One voice is a horny little devil who urges you to Go for it! Take what you want!

The other is the littlest angel. The one who cautions you that even though it is tempting, it might not be the best thing for you.

But one last thing to remember, Lioness. Don't let anyone tell you that you were wrong or your love was less than what it should have been. I truly believe that we are the sum total of our experiences. And you wouldn't be the intelligent, articulate and obviously compassionate person you are today without having gone through these experiences.

I would imagine unhealthy love is obsession.
Unhealthy love is stalking.

Healthy obsession is love.

No, wait...
Love is a bond, not an attraction.
