What's cookin', good lookin'? Part II

I use red onions, but I soak them in lime juice for a day, It's incredible :).

It's a traditional middle eastern salad. The corn and the bacon sound like fun American additions ;)

Thanks for the info and tip. I didn't know! I had it from a vendor at a pork festival a couple of years ago and tried to recreate it...

Watermelon is good for the liver. Good thing because so many of the other things consumed on July 4 are not.

Tonight: much red Italian food and red Italian wine.
Disclaimer: there's no Italian food but local cuisines.
Tomorrow: a pile of purportedly Asian food and drink.

Sorry for no details. They would only confuse you. Or me.

I smoked back ribs, made baked beans and had a bottle of red.
Watched a few shows and just relaxed...
Happy 4th!

Do the lime juice then! Then tip the lime juice back over as a dressing. It takes the bite out of the onion, but the juice adds life to the salad too. :)

Maybe someday I'll be brace and try the corn and bacon. I can see them both working flavour note wise, bacon sounds better the more I think about it.

There's always time for lime. It's the zesty citrus goodness the whole family can agree on.

Yes, bacon. Bacon bacon bacon. Adding bacon to bacon is good too. Try it!

Watermelon is pretty great. I love watermelon with fresh mozzarella and balsamic vinegar. :) The lime soaked red onion sounds heavenly.

For our celebration on the 3rd we had hamburgers. Yesterday we enjoyed some broiled pacific saury with leftover side dishes from the 3rd. Tonight I think we're just going to have a simple salad with pitas topped with something resembling bruschetta.

frozen pizza a la butters and cold milk, I'ma stuffed
..
ETA: any suggestions for these miniature eggplant in my av, They are ready to pic and I'm at a loss for a cooking plan

This came out truly delightful! I feel so indulgent eating creamy mac'n cheese with smoked salmon in it. Link

A couple hours ago these were in my yard.:D

Now they are in my belly.

It's so cool to be able to grow (at least some of) your own food. :)

I did that for one summer and loved it. Sadly it's not a possibility for me anymore, but maybe some day at least on a small scale.

I understand.
For the last five years we've been living as "city mice" and while I am usually adamant that anyone can grow in containers I certainly proved that it has its own learning curve.
Now we are back in the country so this harvest was especially... meaningful, significant.

Candied walnuts. I wanted walnuts and something sweet so I made the walnuts sweet. :)

Soup with soba noodles, tofu, edamame and broccoli.

I made a proper broth with dashi, mushrooms, nori and a bit of this and that and let it simmer and develop a good while before using it. It paid off big! Easily the best soba soup I've ever made.

Sounds good, seela. This makes me want a cold soba dish now. It's too hot for soup. :)

It's probably fairly uncommon to find %100 soba. Mixed with wheat is still fine. :)

Simple tonight, Bacon cheeseburgers with Habanero cheddar, oven baked potato wedges with cajun seasoning, brussel sprouts sauteed in garlic butter, and peas because the kids will not eat sprouts....

I rarely cook, she is much better at it than I, but she is sick... blah

A pantry supper.

A jar of home canned stock and rice in the rice cooker.
A can of peas because, vegetables.
A jar of home canned chicken with the broth, canned mushrooms with the broth, a can of cream of chicken soup and a can of cream of mushroom soup all mixed together and heated through.

Rice in a bowl, chicken "gravy" on top with peas and garlic bread on the side.

Looks delicious.
If I didn't know it was tofu, I would think it was a nice portion of some white fish.

Thanks, it was really good. :)

White fish would be great with the sauce I made, too, good idea. I'm gonna try that sometime!

A stupid question regarding your previous post... What is cream of chicken? Cream of chicken makes me think of the chicken dessert I had in Istanbul and it somewhat diminishes my appreciation for cream of chicken instantly. :p And I don't think there's anything like that in the States, so it must be something else.

I know, I could google, but letting people see my stupidity is more fun.
