What's cookin', good lookin'? Part II

Hmmm. Tuna cakes instead of crab cakes.
Thinking...
Are they strong flavoured? I only say that because crab is so comparatively mild, and my brain jumps directly to comparing them with crab cakes. I can't decide if I would like that or not, even though I do like the odd tuna sandwich every now and then. But I'm not sure I like hot tuna :p :D
Did you make up the recipe or find it on line? I have not yet searched, obviously

It tastes like tuna, but in my opinion not overly strong. It's a lot like salmon cakes really. i didn't follow a recipe, but the method is pretty much the same for most cakes. There's something really yummy about the crunchy outside of the tuna.

No measurements, but I put in one 5oz can of tuna (in water) and I left the water in. I added chopped green onion and red onion. For seasoning I added salt, pepper, garlic powder, and crushed red pepper. I squeezed half a lime into it and added enough panko, plus one egg to turn it into a dough. I made mini patties and pan fried them in a bit of olive oil. :)

There's lots of precise recipes though so it might be better to follow one of those. σ^_^; I'm not very organized when I make things up.

As usual when I encounter something new, now I want this! :D

You eat stuff that was fermented for decades without batting an eye.

Hm. So you don't coat them with panko, but add it to the dough? Interesting.

I made ras el hanout quinoa patties with a mint dip yesterday, as part of my veggie week. I think I'll try some tuna patties next, with quinoa instead of the panko. It seems healthier.

 that's true. I have the same problem with spicy food. I can't be trusted to say if something is spicy or not because usually if I say "no" someone ends up downing milk and bread in desperation. (Collar, don't trust me! ∑(゚Д゚) )

It's because I'm lazy. :p Some recipes coat the patties and some add it to the dough. I didn't want the mess/extra work of coating them. Also, it needed to balance out the liquid content of the mixture.

This sounds interesting. :) I've read about quinoa but I've not tried it yet.

Duck and veggies.

Edit:
And here it is. Looks kind of unappetizing, but it was really yummy. I'm not a big sauce person, but this one turned out great. It's fig sauce I improvised out of the last few teaspoons of fig jam I had in the fridge. Good stuff.

Looks pretty darn good to me, Seela. Leeks and potatoes and carrots? And fig sauce sounds just lovely with duck  :)

The baked carnival squash with butter, orange marmalade and some new kind of granola crunched over the top was really good, although I think I need more protein while I'm healing. Bacon and coffee, super syrupy sticky good dark coffee, was perfect though. I suppose not getting hurt in the first place would be better? And how long is this going to take? Can't watch my God damn movie because the God damn Blu-ray player isn't letting me watch my God damn fucking movie. This low-resolution stuff is ridiculous and pisses me right the fuck off. Too much coffee.

Extra-toasted toast and jalapeno blackberry jam + coffee, amaretto protein shake. This would be the best diner ever if the subs in the guy's car outside weren't giving me a toothache.

Masala forget-what-you-call-it and a coconut milk protein shake. I finally used up a huge eggplant and zucchini from the farmer's market that were starting to go bad. I'm so sure I don't eat like this all the time though or I'd weigh about 100 lbs!

I can't ever get into warm avocado :(
It's just... wrong for me. Doesn't sit well. I can only handle it cold for some reason, or room temp.
For the first time in never, I got one of these "Slimcados" that taste just like they sound. Guaranteed by-product of genetic engineering and to make you not quiet-as-fat-as-you-thought.

Ok. Enough drinking for a Monday. Made a killer shrimp étouffée this weekend.
I'm serving up. Any takers? Blu?

I had a pretty good breakfast, but my dishwasher is broken so I'm pissed off. Which thread do I post in? Decisions.

Low calorie meal ideas!

\(^o^)/

Alright, I'm doing really well and I'm enjoying learning about all the stuff I shove into my face. I've been able to eat lots of variety while lowering the sodium, sugar and calories in each meal (plus snacks) so I'm not desperate but I really want to hear some ideas. I'm assuming there are foods I've never heard of or tried that could be really delicious. What are the healthy foods you love?

One of the things I do is that whenever I fire up the grill, I throw whatever veggies I have around on the grill as well. I portion them out and freeze them and then throw them into soups or whatever later on. Adds lots of lovely flavour and very little calories. I find this a good substitute for bacon in some recipes (like beans). I don't know that I have specific low calorie recipes that I go to though.

:) I will keep this in mind. I don't have the ability to grill (I have an electric broiler/grill thing) but it doesn't give things a particular flavor like an outdoor grill might.
