Porn, and the writing of it is still here and going strong. While porn is not mainstream it is growing in acceptance in some circles. (Maybe wwe still have a chance?) Also porn is changinf slightly, addapting to new mores and social codes. If you were to compare what is popular in porn today to what was popular even twenty years ago you will notice some changes in writing styles and subject matter. (Not always for the best but they say change is good.)

When Oprah invented her book club thing and just a little before, let me see, that would have been in the late nineties, maybe? My wife belonged to a little group of women. The Shallow Women's Club. They were reading books recommended by one another. They'd give each other about three weeks and then discuss the books together. About three books in they began to notice a disturbing thing.
They concentrated on women writers, this century only, and weirdly every new book had a story of child sexual abuse, threatened or real. It was a common thread. A lot of the Oprah selections mentioned it too.
That was occasionally very graphic sex. So porn and mainstream are often a matter of emphasis.

A lot have gone into 'budget porn' where arrival is more important than the journey. Others are working in 'consumer porn' writing scenarios for television advertising. I'm working in 'health porn', those nifty captions on cigarette packs. Here's one of my recent Portuguese offerings: "Os fumadores morrem prematuramente" which means 'Smoking cures premature ejaculation' - I think.

I certainly think of myself as being a writer of porn - or smut or dirty stories - perhaps moreso than anybody else here. I refer to it as "erotica" but I think of it as porn.

Yes, its hard to ram some love into anal sex but "it needs doin."
A friend once told me she loved my stories but read them in the morning and felt strange with coffee and anal sex first thing in the mornin. I just said "but how can you get by without coffee?"
