Is this lady for real?

This was a Letter to the Editor in todays Cape Cod Times. Would she prefer that the beaches be sanitised on a nightly basis?

No day at the beach when rat scuttles by
Last week I was visiting my parents in Harwich. We had relatives visiting from Seattle and went to Red River Beach. We were enjoying our day until a horrible, unnerving incident: a rat came from the rocks and ran right up to where we were lying. It scrambled for about 30 seconds, then found its way to the garbage can. I called 911 so that someone would come to capture this rat.
When the police arrived, the rat had run into the dunes on the end of the beach. I told my story to the policemen (two cars arrived). I was told that there are rats everywhere and that this was not an emergency - I should not be worried that a rat might have bitten my three toddler grandchildren.
I hope that the people of Harwich feel that having a rat on the beach is an emergency, and that an investigation is done to determine whether there are more rats that need to be exterminated.
And I am owed an apology by the policeman who told me that this was not an emergency!

Ah, nothing like making the great outdoors clean and tidy like the indoors.

I wonder if she complains about the sand getting in her shoes too. Maybe they should sweep all that up.

Saw something similar on What's That Bug?

Some one asked about some wasps hanging in her back yard. Cicada Killers they turned out to be. These wasps are big, but not at all aggressive.

The site told her not to worry.

She freaked big time.

We should remember Heinlein's aphorism. "There's only one dangerous animal. But most of the time you have to act as if it's as sweet and loving as a cobra."

I don't know about sand in her shoes, but I can bet she complains long and loud about sand in other places.

LOL

When Hurricane Frances was bearing down on Florida I had finished getting the place ready and was sitting on our Patio when a friend of my wifes showed up. She was aghast that I was sitting there cleaning firearms. She couldn't understand this and asked why I was doing this. Instead of telling her it was just routine maintanence I told her it was because I didn't so much worry about the storms as I did the aftermath. She laughed at me and told me I was being stupid.

She reminded me of this as Jean was bearing down on us, but was quiet after as we heard stories of looting and assaults in places not far from us.

She quietly chided me on this later, then she saw the aftermath of Katrina and what happened in New Orleans.

Now I don't have to explain to her what Heinlein means when he said there is only one truly dangerous animal, she knows.

God forbid the raccoons come out to play!
Seagulls (Shit-hawks)- arent they rats with wings?
What about snakes?
Sand fleas-icky!
Like Rob said, is she going to complain about bugs next?

Not that Id be happy if a rat came out and decided to eat lunch with me, Id likely freak too, but not call 911!
Id be too busy grabbing my blanket or towel and runnin' fast, fast as this body moves, which is a slow trot!

To each their own,
C

LOLOL The Dump Eagles are I'm sure the next ones on her list.

Sand Fleas? She might have to complain about them. (Or are you talking about her kids?)

Green Head Flies? Call in the E.P.A.?

I was only visited by a rat once when I was near the water on Cape Cod. I was fishing from a dock on the Cape Cod Canal and one came along nosing about the bait box. I very politely asked it if it could swim just before punting it into the water. At least it was honest, it told me it could swim and it did.

Maybe this lady should visit Florida during the winter months. Then she could complain about the five foot tall 300+ pounders needing a full body shave who just happen to be wearing either Bikini's or Speedo's while on the beach.

Oh wait, maybe she's one of these.

Cat,

I probably never told you but I absolutely love your sense of humour and your outlook on life.

You don't shit on anyone, don't take shit from anyone and you're always respectful and kind in your exchanges.

For what it's worth.....you're a good man! :rose:
