A submissive friend of mine a few days ago made some intriguing comments during a lifestyle-related discussion that I thought I should share on the boards here.

One of which was her suggestion that no women could ever be a true Dominant and that women who are of a Dominant personality have just not met the right man to submit to. Obviously, I pointed out that there are many women I know of who would dispute such a claim, but she remained firm in her point of view.

In any case, I made it clear to her that it sounded more like to me that her thoughts weren't actually her own, but rather what people have told her to believe. Something along the lines "Well, I'm a Christian/Jew/Wiccan so I believe in this..." or "I'm submissive, so I believe in this..."

Discuss amongst yourselves!

That sounds suspiciously like a number of stereotypes!

In the 70's it was "Women can't do line work for telephone and electric companies because they don't have the strength," and "Women can't be CEO's because they will be more worried about their families than the business, so they don't have the drive to succeed."

In the 80's it was "Gay men are only gay because they haven't met the right woman."

I could just as easily say that "Dom men are dom only because they haven't met the right woman to submit to!" But that doesn't make it true!

Actually , I would not bother to debate her. After all opinions are like ass holes, everyone has one.

Interesting thought occurs to me. All of us, each and every single one of us without exception, believes things that others have told us.

Some things we believe because we were told about it, tried it, saw that what we were told came about as advertised.

Some of us believe in things because of faith. We haven't seen it or experienced it ourselves, but others have told us of their experience(s) and we trust/believe the source, so we believe their testimony.

So it is with philosophies, experiences, religions, scientific discoveries, political policies, laundry detergents and diet pills.

The beliefs in question cannot be empirically tested to prove or disprove her belief, we simply have our own anecdotal evidence to draw on.

PERSONALLY, I believe she's right. Unfortunately, I simply do not have the time to let 3 Billion women road test me to find out if I am the One they will change orientation for or submit to.
