What would you order?

I would order:

Gyoza (although I frequently don't order appetizers at all, depends how hungry I am, who I'm with--if we want to share, that sort of thing.)

Yakitori, the beef is tempting as well, depends what the veggies are :)

Mandarin orange ice cream. (green tea ice cream is ok, but the orange is more appealing to me.)

Middle Eastern food is my passion. I love Moroccan food, and Persian. Oh and Indian food too. Though I can't eat spicy food the way I used to.

I only really know sashimi and tempura, so I'll go with the other stuff.

Appetizers:
Futo-maki- a sushi roll

Entrees:
Teppanyaki Beef- grilled beef and vegetables

Dessert:
Green tea ice cream
It was a very hard choice. I also lived in Japan for a few years and miss the local food.

*bump*
I'm up to 33 order so far of 50. Anyone else want to voice an opinion?

Thank you very much to everyone who's posted so far.

This sounds so good, this is what I would order;

Shrimp Tempura
Salmon and Tuna Sashimi
Green tea ice cream

with hot green tea!

Appetizers:
Gyoza- Japanese potstickers

Entrees:
Salmon and Tuna Sashimi

Dessert:
Pass, largely because I very rarely do desserts. If I did, it would be green tea ice cream.

Oh, and see if the chef can find me some fresh tako. Mmmmm tako.

Gyoza- Japanese potstickers

鍋貼? 雲吞!

Entrees:
Yakisoba- noodles with vegetables
Tonkatsu- breaded & fried pork, very tasty
Yakitori- grilled chicken with fried rice
Teppanyaki Beef- grilled beef and vegetables
Salmon and Tuna Sashimi

豚カツ

Dessert:
Mandarin Orange Ice Cream
Green tea ice cream

いいえ、結構です

I would order

Futo-maki- a sushi roll (if it contains no fish; can't recall for sure from my sushi days)

Yakisoba- noodles with vegetables

Mandarin Orange Ice Cream

Then I would probably find a different place to eat because there aren't enough vegetarian options on the menu.

Thanks everyone. As semi-requested, here is the full out menu (it has my notes in it as well because I'm too lazy to edit them out). The prices listed are in the range of other restaurants around Orange County's South Coast Plaza mall.

i don't do asian desserts.

//Small hijack// OSG - lovely to see you, hope your ok xx

Vix, can't give you my options as have never had japanese food other than sushi.... I know its a strange admission! Hope you get the data you need x

I always want to try all the desserts but I never have the tummy room to do so!

I must say fruit sushi might make me order that and maybe not anything else.

I adore a good ginger dressing on salad.

I also love tomato bean curd soup (might be Chinese though rather than Japanese and miso.)

I've been known to dream about avocado rolls. LOL

:rose:

What I miss the most from japanese foods are the country-style cooking-- i don't remember what it was called, but there would be a big vat of simmering stock, and it would be partitioned off, and different things in each partition. Fish, tofu, veggies, sweet potatoes, and you'd point to what you wanted and they would ladle it out into a bowl of broth for you. they would keep tally with plastic shapes.

I miss the chargrilled mackerel pike, always served two to a plate, head to tail, with coarse salt sprinkled like an eddy of water. I miss Yakitori which is tiny skewers of stuff cooked over a grate over an open flame. I miss simple soba dishes, and rice balls with tuna or pickled plum inside, and mochi off of a cart in the middle of the night...

This is the stuff I eat whenever I can. Two places here do incredible country menus, and one does soba/udon exclusively. Yellowtail collar is my favorite item since the autoimmune meds made me scared of raw.

I'd do futo maki and the beef on the abbreviated menu, edamame and miso with pork and veggies, yakiniku veggies. The things I wish were there are goma ae, and atsu age/age dashi tofu.

.

Seeing the full menu, I would so totally eat there again! Thank you for sharing it and for tolerating my little "Vegetarian's get left out" rant!

Dietary restrictions are part of my interest in food. I did a dairy free wedding cake last weekend that got rave reviews. By keeping such things in mind, it makes me more versatile a cook/baker.
