In a another thread I realized I've never, ever gotten a return Email addy from a negative response. I've gotten a fair amount of negative responses but never with an Email attached. Has anyone else gotten a return addy from a negative response? What did you do? did you respond, delete and move on? If you haven't gotten an return Email addy from a negative response yet what would you do if you did?

Hello John,

Yes, I have gotten a return addy for negative mail a few times, not as often as I'd like. I appreciate it when I have a chance to respond to negative feedback. I simply replied to the person with a thank you for their time, thoughts and opinions and, if needed, questions about why or what made them feel this way. If the negative was constructive and I could benifit from it I thanked them for that also.

Hi John. Usually when my feedback is negative, it is anonymous. That really irks me, because I'd like the chance to find out what it was that they didn't like about my story (unless they mentioned it in the letter), and to thank them for taking the time to write even if they didn't like it.

A very short trip for sure, but it really does. I had a feedback that yelled at me for being anatomically incorrect. I still remember that feedback to this day and I have been careful to either make sure my anatomy is correct or to be vague enough no-one would know that I didn't know... LOL... anyway, I really wanted to thank that guy (or girl) and never got the chance. I also thought it was pretty cool that someone thought deeply enough about the story to even consider anatomy??? shit maybe I missed the point and they weren't suppose to be 'thinking' at that point. Oh well...

I've never had any negative feedback...yet..and I am kind of worried. All the good authors frequrntly get negative feedback...and i don't get any...it doesn't take Math Girl to do the Math there really.

Nope. The readers who want to face sit don't even leave return addresses. That isn't fair. What if I suddenly wanted to do some face sitting and there was nobody to tell about it.

I haven't sent any feedback yet to anyone's stories... being new around this place and all... but I would never offer unconstructive criticism. It's not my way. If I ever send anyone feedback... you can bet, good or bad, that it will be courteous and constructive and NOT anonymous.

I would welcome constructive negative feedback. I am surrounded by loving friends and family and I always fear that their opinions would be biased in my favor despite their protests to the contrary. I think I would respond to negative feedback, if given the option, were it constructive. I am anxious always to pick people's brains to my benefit.

No matter what the situation, there is a REAL person sitting on the other side of this monitor with REAL feelings. I would rather be respectful and honest than take the chance of discouraging someone from writing.

When in doubt, treat someone as you'd want to be treated, in matters such as this.

Judge... but judge fairly and without personal attacks.

Even though only one of my stories has been posted, the only negative feedback I have received is from folks in the AH that I have solicited opinions from - and that only because of my rude ignorance in not warning them about aspects of my story (incest, lesbian and group sex), meaning it was my own damn fault.

AH members have been some of my greatest help in improving my craft, not only in erotica, but in the other stories I write as well (at least I hope I write them as well).

I always love the feedback that's addressed directly to the character in the story, as if he or she were a real person ... perhaps that should be considered positive feedback, that it suspended someone's disbelief that thoroughly.

I'm not talking about constructive criticism... I consider that positive feedback. I will respond when given the chance to every constructive criticism. I'm talking about the negative feedback, the you suck and your story does too... or the where'd you write your last story? on the Bathroom wall? type of negative feedback. I only consider it negative when it doesn't pertain to the story, or is so general you can't learn anything from it or it is a personal attack as if I've taken something from them by force not by their choice to spend the time to read something I've written.

I love feedback particularly the kind I can learn from, I love the "you should write this... into your story" I'm not looking for the "you're great" feedback it does massage my ego to get the "I love your story" feedback but the most desired feedback is the kind that one would get from a Rumple foreskin or even your feedback Dr. Mab... I've never failed to learn from those types. Nto what I consider to be negative at all.

Lots of words to agree with you I suppose...
