So, lets pretend your favorite lit friend is visiting in the area, and they're not from that area. You have enough time to take them to see, or do, TWO things in your area. We'll say, for sake of fun, that for some magic reason (hey, it's make believe) that you have unlimited funds to take your friend to wherever.

What would you do and where would you go?

Money wouldn't be an issue. Most of the coolest things in Nelson are cheap or free.

First stop would definitely be a walk through town, starting at Baker Street and ending at Lakeside Park. That would take the entire day, even though it's a short stretch. We are lucky here in that Nelson has a very distinct "heart" and most everyone gathers there. I love, love, love Baker Street.

Then, depending on the friend and the season, we'd do something sporty. Probably a mountain bike ride. The old CP rail tracks were torn up and made into a beautiful hiking/ biking trail that goes for miles and miles. And the view, especially from some of the mountain trails, is stunning.

So, although this is a BDSM web site and as such, kinky sex is the norm in many threads, am I to assume that kinky sex with this friend from Lit is not one of the options? After all, you did mention cheap and I'm one of the original cheap dates.

Woah! When I first looked at that second pic, it looked like the biker was in mid air and that thing on his back was a parachute. I'm not the squeamish type, but if I ever come for a visit, I guess I should bring a change of underwear.

I would take them to a different area.

...

Okay, I would take them to the little village close by where I grew up and talk about my childhood there (priceless moment) and then I would visit a Bohemian restaurant that is here and use the money to have it and the cute waitresses just for my friend and myself that evening. The dinner would be cesneková polévka, svicková and povidlové taštičky as dessert.

Unless it's CutieMouse, then I would purchase the Prisse Papyrus from the Bibliothèque nationale de France in Paris and the Jikji from Korea and transfer them to the local museum and fund an exhibition "Bookbinding in the history of mankind".

Hmm... I just got a little turned on, without even meaning to.

Oops.

LOL. I'd take you on a much more serene tour, DVS. Actually, I would probably take you out on a Friday night to sample our very eclectic and vibrant local music scene.

ETA: The trail in that pic is actually a bunny hill for many of the mountain bikers around here.

You mean aside from the hotel suite, right?

Chicago is such a varied city, I think the tour I'd give would be entirely individual. For example, it would be a crime to bring CutieMouse in for a visit without taking her to the Art Institute of Chicago. Keroin the daredevil would certainly get a stop at the Sears Tower Ledge (yes, I know the building has new owners and a new name but it will always be the Sears Tower). Something tells me that ITW would enjoy an afternoon wandering along Michigan Avenue with stops at Bloomingdales and any of the elegant boutiques nearby.

And, of course, we would eat. A few possibilities include Charlie Trotter's, Rick Bayless's Topolobampo, Alinea, and (for a more casual lunch) Hot Doug's.

But these are just places in the place. Where I'd want to take someone even more, would be places in their interior. But that's for another thread, isn't it?

I'm in!

Watching that video reminded me of one of L's trips to the CN Tower in Toronto. Most people are pretty nervous walking out on glass like that and looking way, way, way down. Of course, the glass is THICK and you could probably dump a truck load of bowling balls on it without breaking it but it feels very tenuous.

So L's up there and there's a whole load of tourists walking gingerly around, enjoying the view with sweaty palms. He runs, leaps into the air and STOMPS down on the glass floor with both feet.

There was shrieking.

:D

That's hilarious.

Wow. I figured this thread was a dud.

I'd definately take someone who isn't from around her to Multnomah Falls. If they're hikers, we might go hiking to see some of the smaller falls, like The Fairy Falls. If we had time, we'd go up to Crown Point. As long as it was still day - that's the main make-out place after dark.

After that it would depend on the person. If they're shoppers I'd take them to the Saturday Market. The Saturday Market is only hand made stuff, and is a blast to go to. If they aren't, and they don't live on the coast, we'd go over to the Coast.

Well...

First, the first day I would take him on a tour around the entire city... see the architecture, the high and low points, the best pubs, the shops...everything!

Second, going out to a nice dinner, drag his arse to a nice theatre, and then (as this is a BDSM thread) a night of completely depraved sex ;)

Hmm...

If we had to stay in the metroplex I'd say we'd go to the Sixth Floor Museum, Reunion Tower, and maybe to Southfork Ranch, where Dallas was filmed, to fulfill the city slicker requirement. Dinner would be Tex-Mex, BBQ, or southern cooking depending on preference. Right now the state fair is going on and that's always a good time, as is the rodeo.

Fort Worth has a better zoo and prettier arts district than Dallas not to mention Tim Love's Lonesome Dove.

I think people have to get out of the city though to really see the Texas they've been stereotyping. I like to take people to Texas A&M football games. :) Gives them a healthy respect for how crazy football can be in Texas while showing them a nice bit of countryside.

And any day that ends with two-stepping and a Shiner ends well.

not much where I live, but sea and cliffs. so a cliff walk and then a visit to either some of the holy wells (for the atheists) or the fogue (for believers).

at this time of the year I would take them to the Blue Ridge Parkway, stay at luxury cabin for a day or two.

Then head to the beach and stay for a day or two at an ocean front house. Dolphin watching from the beach with a drink in hand.

One of these has really kick ass Chicago style pizza, yes?

I like the improve type shows too and dim sum in China Town.

:D

Since both the Opryland Hotel and Opry Mills Mall are closed down, to the best of my knowledge, the best local places to show off are kind of out of the picture for me. >.>

Not true. You have a gorgeous river, a very attractive downtown area, and a zillion little bars where the music is fabulous.

Plus there's this one righteous Thai place...I forget exactly where it's located, but it's right down the street from the hotel where I stayed downtown a few years ago.

My favorite spot in Nashville is BB Kings when Stacey Mitchhart is playing there...which is pretty often!!!

We'd fuck all day long, and then... ice cream is good...

Greenville, SC has one of the best downtown areas.:)

We have a waterfall in the middle of downtown with a great suspension bridge and wonderful gardens surrounding them both.

http://www.fallspark.com/index_content.html

It is a great area for romance, at night you can see many couples of all ages strolling around, swinging in one of the swinging benches, or with a blanket down on the grass by the flowers. The trees are all lit with tiny little white lights and usually someone is playing an instrument or two for donations. It is a wonderful place to take your family including your pets. You can have a picnic, they have Shakespeare in the Park and it is a short walk to our zoo and several artist's workshops. We have several nice restaurants to go to, including coffee shops and ice cream places and several eclectic shops to explore. When I ran more consistently, it was great to go running. Lots of little paths and up and down running. There are lots of festivities too. We just finished with Fall for Greenville and in April is Artisphere, a personal fave.

I love this area so much I wrote an erotic vignette pertaining to it.

I will have to think of another section of the city to bring a friend, I love this particular area so much.:rose:

I forgot to mention, we have a Rubber Ducky Derby too!

I dare anybody to top that, lol!
