I once bought a motorcycle for £400 when it should have been about £2000, I got it from a woman who's husband had an affair and she found out she then sold all his stuff and the bike was registered in her name for insurance reasons so I got it cheap :D

What's been your best buy ?

about three years ago i wanted to add a larger band saw to my shop. decided on a jet 1 horse. retails for around $650.00. i went to the local lowe's home center only to be told by the young man waiting on me that they no longer carried them in stock but that they would order one for me. the manager of the tool department was walking by and overheard us and said he thought they had one more in stock and that the clearance sale price was $450.00. i asked him to get it and he did. he then told the young man helping me to call the back office and get a clearance code number or some such and he did and i heard him ask three times, "are you sure?" he then said "yes mam" and told me not to say a thing, just write the check and get out o there. I got the thing for $150.00 plus tax.

HS's best buy is saving $10. Brains..... BRAINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mine is my Toro Groundsmaster72. $250 including a second deck (worth $3500) and the mower could resell right now for $10K., it's $20K new.

Not to mention it saved me 2 hours a week cutting the grass, and saves a good $50 a month in gas compared to the old mower.

there's something totally but admirably decadent about owning a 20K lawn mower. hell, i've never owned a car worth that much.

Myself and three friends bought a derelict fishing boat for £1, this thing was a hundred foot long and part sunken in a river on the east coast of England.

I can remember the harbour master laughing openly at us along with his little band of cronies, he soon stopped laughing when we pumped it out at low tide and and it floated up off the bottom, he really stopped laughing when we stripped all the metal from it and sold it for hundreds of pounds.

We also took all the souvenir's like the wheel and port holes out and sold those, then we called a guy we heard about who use's old wood from buildings ( the entire boat was made from huge oak beams) to fix even older buildings and sold him what was left of the boat for about £1,000.

The site of the harbour masters face when we told him a few months later how much money we had made from that old boat we bought for one pound will stay with and warm me for many years to come. :D

I've said it before, but I paid $200 for a dog that twice stopped bulls charging my back when i was stuck in knee-deep mud. I don't think I could get a wheelchair for that kind of money.

Yeah, it's a commercial one. It's not 700 HP like PC's though. Actually, the $20K ones now are diesel with better decks, so that was a bit of an exaggeration. Buying this one new would be more like $15K.

Dude, I got a Dell for $285.

1g Celeron, but hey! It's a Dell with a 3 year warranty.

These are cool mowers, I use a gravely promaster, makes the lawn look just like a carpet. Old commercial mowers have lots of life in them for residential use

Purchased two MGBs in the late 80s , 0ne was a GT and one a roaster that didnt run. I sold the GT for 1200.00 after cleaning it up. fixed the roadster, drove it for a year and sold it for 2100.00. Those kinds of deals are getting harder and harder to find.:)

Now if you could just learn to aim your webcam:) A little higher would be just fine

USGI M2 ball ammo, surplus, 400 rounds per 50 cal can, original in the box, $105, delivered.

And the cases are fully reloadable, too.

Too bad they sold out.

My aim is true. And I try to stay anonymous on the board, I'm not really comfortable with showing everything :)

Have you been there lately? Their economy is booming! Last time I was there a similar locket and chain was going for around $80 American dollars. They are moving on up. They have a history of speedy recovery! ;)

I found a brushed aluminum propeller shaped table base at the thrift store. It was marked $14.98 but the person at the register misread it and charged me only $4.98. Last year I saw the same glass topped table on the cover of Metropolitan Home magazine. I don't know what it's actual worth is but I felt great!

I also found a bronze Maxfield Parrish style lamp at a yard sale for $2. It was from the 1920's-30's. I've had it valued at $350 recently.

When a sales person screws up like that - is it right to keep quiet or point it out?
