So right after my last posting, I get a long distance call from my cousin in Colorado...

After talking for a short bit, she tells me that she and her husband are ready to open a restaraunt, and the first person they taught of to help them run it/cook in it, was me. My first question is, "how serious is this?". "Serious", they say.

With a date for desicion within the next 3 months, I get to decide if I want not only a "career change", but a change of address 2 states away.

I absolutely love visitng Colorado, but I'm not sure if I would be able to live there.

What to do, what to do?

i've been in the restaurant business for seven years. i dont like ti and cantwait to get out. assume seeing as they asked you, you must have experience as well. it's a tough business so make sure you'll be happy doing this for a while.

That moves you closer to Oregon.:)

I have no real advice. Can only tell you, if this is the cousin you have mentioned to me before, that you like so much..... sounds like a very exciting new venture.

I know about the food business, and about running a "small" business, but I'm mostly opting for the cooking part, more than the business side.

Her husband is also a very good cook, and yes, we consider ourselves chefs even. We take pride in what me create.

The talk so far is on comfort foods, which is somewhat different for the area, rather than "fine dining". Perhaps if we find some, we'll add a bit of class in there somewhere.

It couldn't come at a better time when I want something new, but in this case, am unsure about if that is THE thing or not.

Summery, girl you are so right! :D

And yep, this is the same one I told you I visited last year.

God, I'm gonna become an even bigger alcoholic.

I would say since it's family that you should try to treat this as professionally as possible. Make sure everything is in writing and contracts. That way if something does happen or goes wrong you have a paper trail. Make sure to leave yourself a way out if it doesn't work.

Maybe set up a list of pros and cons?? Housing costs, living expenses, time off, personal and otherwise.

That's my .02 cents worth. ;) Wishing you the best of luck

but farther from this side of MO

Honestly, it sounds as though it could be a lot of fun. And Colorado is so beautiful no matter what the season.

Yes, anytime in Colorado is good. I would be doing something I like, and want to try to do porfessionally.

I told them I'd talk with them and see if they are just bullshitting, in the next 2 weeks, so hopefully I will have lots of time to think seriously about the good & bad here.
