Since I'll be going to Atlanta for 2 weeks vacation at the end of this month, I was wondering if anybody here could give me any pointes as what would be nice things to do there?

I have cruised the web, and found some places I want to go, but thought I would ask the members here as well, since I can imagine a few of you live there, or have been there.

Oh, I LOVE Atlanta! Go to the Olympic park and play in the fountains! Play on the Marta at 2 AM... lots of nice people to meet on there. And be sure to hit all of the art museums! :)

hmmm, only ever been to Atlanta once, driving down to Florida, so the only thing I know about in Atlanta is the Waffle House that I had breakfast at one day. Damn good service at that particular one though.

Can you nmeet Neil Boortz and get me an autograph?

You have to go to the Coke Factory! It is a fun trip. The Underground is cool to. If you like football, you might want to see if you Georiga Tech is playing the weekend you're there and try to get tickets. If you go to a game, plan on eating at the Varsity first. The place is packed, and the food is average, but it is a must. If you like shopping, or someone you are going with does, go to Lenox Square, and there is a Macy's downtown. See if the Braves have any home games, and try to go. There is lots to do there, you'll have an awesome time!

There is a Six Flags you can hit, too.
Wouldn't exactly put it at the top of the list, though. LOL

;)

There's a lot of GREAT restaurants... you can even meet some of Myst's family! (good food is in the genes.)

Todd I have no clue as to whom you're talking about, so you better take care of that yourself!

Bitch_Goddess my friends there have got hold of tickets for a Falcon's game, and I'm looking forward to seeing that! And the coke factory is on my list as well already.

Myst I just have to say that I like your new avatar!! WOW!

Keep the good suggestions comming all, I'll write it on my lists, and see what happens

I live in Atlanta...tell me what kind of restaurants you like and I can recommend some. The best way to find out who may be playing at home then is to go to the Ticketmaster website. It's that time of year when baseball, football, basketball and hockey are playing. I've never been to the touristy places like Underground or the Coke Museum. Six Flags is kind of a dump.

The waterparks are closed already. We still hold with that Memorial Day to Labor Day tradition here. (that means no white shoes too)

Stone Mountain Park will have their tour of Southern Ghosts during that time. Really good storytellers to scare you before Halloween.

The World of Coca-Cola is fun. Zoo Atlanta has giant pandas right now, so a trip there might be worth it.

If you're interested in history, the Martin Luther King Center is interesting. And the Warm Springs National Historic Sight (where FDR recuperated) isn't very far away.

It's only a 11/2 hour drive to Chattanooga and the Tennessee Aquarium.

Athens

Just a little northeast of Atlanta is a great college town called Athens. University of Georgia is there and some of the best clubs if you are into blues and jazz. They have a great botanical garden and an above average museum. It has an Outback, which is possibly the best place to get a great steak or prime rib. Stone Mountain has some wonderful sites and on a clear day you can see 7 states from atop the mountain. If you are into history, try the Civil War sites like Chickamauga or Look Out Mountain. I used to live near Athens and there are tons of things to see and do. You have gotten a lot of good suggestions already, but thought I throw in a few more. You'll have a great time there.

I again want to thank you for all those good hints.

WriterDom it's actually her and her husband I'll be visiting when I'm there ;)

Cracker Barrel is run by bigots

Several years ago they fired their lesbain and gay employees over some stupid homophobic AIDS- related hysteria. The employees sued and lost. Best to my knowledge they still have a policy of not hiring them.

oh, well, you'll be in good hands :)

meet me for lunch?

I love going down Buford Hiway to the Vietnamese BBQ and there is also great Cuban and Mexican food on that strip, not to mention a few good dimsum houses! Yummy!

There is much to do and see here in the heart of Dixie...I am sure WriterDom and her partner will take good care of your needs ;)
