What the *%@#!??

nopes, no more shaving the bikini area for me for a while!! Anyone who wants access is going to have to become a bushman!! LOL
It was really nice to wake up after my nap and be almost pain free. I do have a loverly bruise coming up in my groin now, but I'll take that over a puss filled nodule any day of the week.
Just got back from getting my second day of IV antibiotics @ the hospital and I have to say I'm already feeling so much more like myself it's kinda creepy. I asked the doc today if there would be any scarring of the skin and he said probably not if I keep it clean and dry and have good aftercare so I was happy to hear that. It's not exactly the right area for a scar ya know?
I went and threw out all the disposable razors in the house today and bought brand new ones and I bought myself some depilatory cream. yup. I admit it, I'm gonna be shit scared to use a razor again for quite a while. I still think it's astonishing that all of this is the result of some infintisimal microbe getting into a infintisimal cut on my skin. Makes me think germaphobes might have the right idea...LOL!
Thanks again to everyone for their good wishes, advice and kind words.

couldn't you just disinfect the blade each time with some sort of alcohol? i get ingrowns even when using depilatories  , so no help here

I think me and razors in the bikini area are done for some time...

I've never used depilatory creams so I confess I'm a little unhappy to hear that you get ingrown hairs using them. :(

did you disinfect the needle you used?

i always hold a needle under a flame then dip in alcohol when popping something. hydrogen peroxide on the area immediately afterwards too.

how about just using scissors to trim the area, so your not all wild down there?

I used a new needle fresh out of the package and dipped it in rubbing alcohol. Doc thinks the bacteria came from the razor and that seems more likely to me.
Afterwards I just cleaned with soap and water. Would normally use an alcohol pad but I happened to be out...go figure!

well I don't think I'm going for the full on pussy 'fro! I already own some little scissors that came with a sewing kit I use to trim but I think the trim may start becoming a full on haircut...lol!

You might want to invest in a beard trimmer -- the one I use on my beard and mustache is a Wahl similar to this one:

It comes with a guard to keep the hair at an even length and to avoid nicks and razor burns.

I've never gotten an ingrown hair from a depilatory, and many people love them, so they may be worth a try for you. :)

However, it's a slow, stinky, irritating way to remove hair for me. I've never had major irritation from Nair, but did not have a good experience with Veet and am too afraid to try Magic after I've heard horror stories about severe chemical burns here.

You can get a pretty close cut with the type of clippers Harold suggested. There are even clippers specifically for the bikini area available at places like Walmart that have finer teeth and are easier to handle. You might try that in combination with one of the microtrimmers (the ones shown on TV for facial hair, brows, touching up men's haircuts, etc.). Neither should nick you and they're relatively quick and easy to use.

Other than that, maybe consider going to a good waxer or getting laser hair removal?

I wonder if wiping the skin and dipping a razor in alcohol (then moisturizing well afterwards) would reduce the risk of infection enough?

Day three of the IV meds and feeling like doing cartwheels down the hospital halls cuz as Nickleback says, " I'm feeling to damn good!"
'Cept for the fact that the back of my hand looks like someone has been tap dancing on from the needles and the right side of my groin is now in technicolor from the bruising I have to say I feel 100% like me again. :nana: :nana:
The doc says I'm recovering well tho he would still like for me to take it easy for a few days so get an extra day off work out of the deal...lol!
The only nasty side effect left is that I'm turning into a disinfectant freak...lol!

At least they did not drain the humor out of you ;) Glad to hear you are doing (reasonably) well. :rose:

Great to hear that you are feeling better! :rose:

Definately consider laser hair removal.... then you wouldn't have to worry about it ever again. I've had it done and it's Awesome! Kind of scary what a razor can do.
