Ink Monsters Have Orgasms.
It refers to a study done about Octopi and their sexual behavior. Over the years, people shortened the study's name, and the abbreviation slowly changed meanings. The study's author, B. Steality, thought that Octopi had orgasms. Others didn't. Much like Gallileo and other free thinkers, Steality was often persecuted for his opinions about the sexual habits of strange water creatures. First, he attempted to mollify the religious objectors in his texts with milquetoastish language about his opinions.
Translated into english, he wrote:
"Well, maybe it might be that the octopi, when having sexual relations, feel something. A little. Maybe a tickle, if not an orgasm."
After being stoned but only mildly injured he hid away and wrote his major thesis, Ink Monsters Have Orgasms, and shed his timid image. He was of course stoned to death immediately, which led everyone to believe that the humble approach was better. Thus, they all started IMHO, so they would not be stoned to death.

In my honest opinion, IMHO means Incontinent Midgets Hose Outhouses.
It comes from Gabriel Bains's classic SF/Steam Punk novel "Isambard Kingdom Brunnel and the Gunmen of Doom". IMHO was a password used by the Darbys and in its full length version was a favourite sarcastic comment used by Brunnel.
