It’s okay, girl. I recently had this happen when trying to flirt:

Me: Are you traveling back tonight?
Him: Yep, I’ll leave after this
Me: So, where is home anyways?
Him: Georgia
Me: Ah, I could tell by your accent.

He is a super thick accented Cuban guy (who later explained he’s French & Cuban, which is why his accent is different but definitely not southern)..but it was total awkward silence before I giggled at myself and then apologized for trying to make a joke
