Do people just generally have bad taste? I looked at my story ratings and two of the most recent ones I put up are Halloween Carnival which is a good story that I am proud of, and Fishnet, which is an embarrassing piece of shit that I never should have wasted the mere 20 minutes of my life I spent writing it. Fishnet has signifigantly better scoring than Halloween Carnival. How can that be? They both have about the same number of reads. Also, even though the two stories have around 500 reads, only eleven people voted for one, and nineteen for the other.

I may be rattling off but I find it very rude when people do not vote for the stories they read. I don't really care if people give feedback or not, though it is nice, but I think that someone coming to a FREE site that offers up thousands of FREE stories by writers that are not getting compensation for their work in monetary form, the reader should spend the approximate seven seconds it takes to simply VOTE for a fucking story.

The voting helps me improve my work. It lets me know people like it. It helps me know I should write more. I think other writers might feel the same way. Reading my story scores is VERY much my payment for writing this shit. I just don't see how 500 or so people read a story and only eleven of them voted for it in any fashion. Voting is like saying,

"Thank you, Miss/Mr. Writer, for spending the fucking HOURS of your life writing this story for me to wank my pud at. I know you are not really getting anything material out of it, so here is a little thanks."

How hard is that?

I vote for every story I read. I may not send feedback to many, I admit, but voting is just the click of a button. No time at all. There is no excuse not to.

READING vs. VIEWING

I'm not sure if you're a regular or first time writer here but let me explain something about the story voting process.
You mentioned the viewing of your story as opposed to the votes. In many cases, those who cast votes on your story may have read it/them in its entirety. Whereas some viewers may have glanced at the story/stories and either lost interest or had no interest and decided not to vote. In the latter case, they may not have read the whole story. That has occurred with me on some occassions. If I begin reading a story and lose interest or find the story uninteresting in the first place, I won't bother finishing the reading and, of course, won't cast a vote on it.

Please, don't misunderstand. I have not read any of your stories and, therefore, is not criticizing any of your stories whatsoever.

I have been around a while actually. I know what you are saying. It is just irritating, that is all. I need to blow steam.

Don't worry too much about it.
It could get worst. I used to get email from some troll who would criticize all of my stories (the only criticisms that I ever received, I might add).
None of the criticisms were legit, however. I guess that was why troll chose to send the emails anonymously.

i understand how you feel about your stories.
been there myself but i just want to say that you will have readers who read only and do not vote for whatever reasons.
the best piece of advise i can offer is not to worry about the numbers. write your story and enjoy yourself. some authors worry about the numbers and drive themselves crazy wondering what is wrong with the story because the totals were low.

i worried about the votes on my first story. i dont worry about the totals anymore. i dont even look at the numbers anymore. the best compliment i ever recieved was an e-mail (the very first one) i recieved from a lady who replied how much she and her husband enjoyed the story and told me about herself. unfortunately, i could not reply back to her as it was sent anonymously. all i know is her name was Michelle.
i have saved that e-mail and even printed it up and saved it. that to me was the best compliment i could have recieved!

dont give up, just keep writing.

I dont many of the stories worth reading till the end, they all seem to be a case of:
"It was a hot summer day, i had nothing but a skimpy nightie on (id just got out of bed).
I heard the door bell ring, so i went down stairs and answered the door, there was a well built black delivery driver from UPS who barged his way in and fucked me up the ass.
Thats the last time i pay for three day delivery"
