What social networks do you use with readers?

Recently it occurred to me to try to maintain a bit more of a social network presence with my readers, something beyond just them leaving comments. I was curious as to whether others have tried this. I know a few people use Facebook, but that seems mostly inter-author. I recently created a Formspring, http://www.formspring.me/LiquidMatthew (questions welcome), so we'll see how that goes.

Has anyone had much success with this, though? It seems that non-author readers tend to be little butterflies, flittering about, but rarely staying anywhere for long. Is it Sisyphean for me to try this?

I've found Facebook to be mostly inter-author connections that are built up, but it's probably inevitable with the way groups work and common interests (i.e. writing) bring people together.

I've tried twitter, which brings a few authors and readers as followers, but not too much interaction since I don't have time to tweet very much at the moment.

So far, Literotica has been by far the best social network for bringing reader interaction, but I've been away for a little while, so maybe things have changed.

I think wanting to try anything with social media is pretty Sisyphean, it's just as time consuming as any other form of self-promotion, if not more so.

I have a Facebook page for my pen name (Eve McFadden) and always put up notices when I post stories or new books, and I try to help other authors who publish in the same groups (Republica Press, Yellow Silk Dreams). I try to post here, and I send out some emails and things like that.

I refuse to do Twitter at least right now. I don't have the time or the energy and I don't really know how much it helps. Facebook allows for more interaction with the comments, at least.
