What needs to be done with this American caught fighting with the Taliban?

*Shoot him?

*Hang him?

*Both shoot and hang?

I say let him live amongst them...they'll kill him sooner of later anyway, why spend our tax-dollars on the traitor?

Both shoot and hang.

He deserves nothing else. To have a difference of opinion is one thing, but to actually be fighting against us? Thats just too much.

If he is a US citizen then he should be tried before an appropriate court.

He is a US citizen after all. Now with the new rules that President Bush's administration has pushed on Congress and the US public he will probably be tried and sentenced by a military tribunal.

Penalty for treason in modern times has been life imprisonment in the US. Death by firing squad is another option open to the tribunal. Hanging is no longer an option.

Yes, he is a US citizen, and he does have the right to choose.....those are the rights that are granted to us when we are born, or sworn into this wonderful country. I do agree differance of opinion is one thing, but hell, he CHOSE to do this....let him renouce his citizenship....

As far as hanging or shooting him? Nah.....tis a waste of bullets or rope. Since he is on thier side, he'll either be forced to surrender, or be killed in action along with his comrades......

try him for treason. that's all there is to it.

just b/c he fought with the enemy doesn't mean he's no longer a US citizen. besides, is there really any charge more serious than treason in a time of conflict?

I'm not saying he shouldn't be punished, but let's not stop to the bad guy's level.

I am a US citizen and I live in New York State. I have friends in New York City and I want the terrorists found and stopped before they can act again. I however don't feel I want to see anyone else die. I'm tired of seeing people die. I went through my anger phase already though.

I certainly think we need to get much more professional about hunting down and stopping terrorists before more people die.

Like the NAZIs, we should terminate their existence here on the planet. As a world, we cannot move on until terrorists are a vague memory to the world citizenry. I will do it if I have to, because I want my world to explore deep space. We won't be able to do any of the things we need to improve this planet until we quit wasting resources, and time, on terrorist vermin!

Try him for treason. After all that is his crime. And I would shoot the bastard. Time to send a message to all the nuts out there that this isn't a game.

Don't waste time on him, let him live in his chosen country. Hell living in Afganistan for the rest of his life would be a far worse punishment than shooting him!

He sold his services (for a religeous payoff), he's a merc, let him rot where he is.

Exactly what I was going to say.

He automatically loses his citizenship by fighting for a foreign country. Leave him where he's at

We've already set a precedent, didn't we? Jane Fonda is not only living happily in the US, she's doing well. Why change things.

Anyway, this is what the US Constitution has to say on the subject:

Article III, Section 3: Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying war against them, or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort. No person shall be convicted of treason unless on the testimony of two witnesses to the same overt act, or on confession in open court.

The Congress shall have power to declare the punishment of treason, but no attainder of treason shall work corruption of blood, or forfeiture except during the life of the person attainted.

Of course, we're ignoring the Constitution right now, so what's another guy getting his rights yanked by Ashcroft and Co.? He should join the rest of us.

hang him publically and chop off his limbs while he is hanging there flopping in the wind and mail the parts to the taliban and say that it will happen to them soon, too.
hahahahahahaa

yeah maybe he has the right the choose-----he made the wrong choice so he should pay. kill kill kill kill kill......okay i am done

Does anyone remember..

For those of you that are military history buffs like myself, you might recall some traditional German families in America sending their sons to fight for the Nazis in World War II.. Does anyone even want to know what happened to them? Why should this man who was caught fighting for the Taliban be treated any different? Religious beliefs or not.. A humans is still a human.. And as such, should be treated with equality.. At the time, this young man probably thought it was a good idea to help the freedom fighters in Kashmir.. But, shit happens, soon you're in over your head and you are fucked.. I really don't blame him.. It's not like these Taliban soldiers really know what they're fighting for anyway.. For them, it's better to fight than to die for not fighting.. It's a shitty world out there.. Hopefully one of these days the answers to most of these problems will be found.. Until then, we have to treat prisoners of war as people.. Nothing less..

Send him over to KillerMuffins house and make him listen to her explain why America has gone too far to the left.

His brain will liquify and pour out of his ears after the first hour.

She won't need to use the pink gun.

A real heartbreak for his parents.

Easier now to understand how the islamic militants have been molded through youth by extremist teachings, when this young man, coming from a completely different social structure, was manipulated into betrayal of his country. Mighty powerful brainwashing techniques disguised as religious fervor.

Terribly sad.

Yeah, that's a smashing theory. Then again, somehow it strikes me that people should be held responsible for their actions.

tie him up

take his shirt off

throwhim fromaship, but whatever he is tied up withstays attatched to the ship.

Allow the barnicals under the ship's belly to tear at his flesh.

slow and painful death.

I agree.. If you're caught with your hand in the cookie jar and then have the nerve to claim innocence, I'll be the first to smack your wrist with the ruler.. But in the mean time, these people need to be treated as humans before we decide how to deal with them.. I'm in favor of trying this man for treason.. Even though he went off to study Islam, that does not grant him a get-out-of-jail free card.. Not by any means.. But before we try him, he deserves to be treated properly and under humane conditions..

So in another words you're in favor of a good keel-hauling? My.. You people certainly do have imaginative minds..

Several things bother me about this. Apparently he went to Yeman at the age of 16 to study arabic, after coverting to Islam sometime before that. First question in my mind is who in the hell were his parents.

Second, the interview i saw with him seemed to indicate that he had a facile mind but no real understanding of what the hell he was doing.

Third, with all the sufffering going on in that country and with so much at risk the United States forces have taken over his care. Why? I wish i could find a reason why we would do that. It seems to me that if you choose your bed you ought to sleep in it. I do not even know if I think he is a traitor. After all he was there long before this war started. I do know, however, that i don't feel comfortable with our care for him.

I feel much the same way about those two missionaries that went there and were held by the taliban. They have returned to the U.S. to what amounts to a hero's welcome. This seems rediculous to me. These women went to a fundementalist and extreme Islamic state with there eyes wide open. I would have been very upset if rescuing them had cost american lives.

sometimes the choices we make need to be honored even when the consequences are painful. that to me is the definition of commitment. I hate it when someone elses bad choice becomes my concern. I wish no one harm. Suffer the fools of the world for they know no better. poppicock!

Try him for treason, and while they're at it, throw
cream pies in his face!
