What should we do about AI?

That is, how to deal with the threat of technological unemployment it poses?

I see no way but Universal Basic Income.

Despite all the tech bro hype, AI can’t replace human workers. There may be a lot of short term job losses because clueless managers will believe the hype, but everyone will have to be hired back after the AI bubble pops in 2026.

You know they'll keep trying -- just because AI is cheaper. Same reason so many factories are automated. Same reason computers answer telephones.

The data centers that run AI are ruinously expensive. Inflating the AI bubble has soaked up all the tech venture capital because the bros think that if they keep piling the shit higher and higher, eventually they’ll find a golden pony underneath. It’s not gonna happen.

No need, not anymore than we needed to do something about the "threat" of the automobile's invention and all the unemployment that caused.

The only thing "needed" is to take the governemnt boot off the peoples throat.

Not all but there will be a lot taking big hits as it advances.

Especially in the white collar/air conditioned jobs that don't require a skilled worker to get on site, show some crack and get the piece of shit working again.

Or maybe they realize they don't really need all the DEI hires and keeping their money sounds better than handing it to Shaniqua and Karen to terrorize the rest of the employees.

They do seem to be at an energy wall, as soon as that changes though, for whatever reason, so will the AI climate.

Looking back, there's a lot government could have done, and no reaso why it should not have, to make that transition easier on the horse breeders and street sweepers.

Liar.

You Deplorables have zero issue with government controlling people's lives as long as it's your preferred version of it.

This has been proven in no uncertain terms.

:)

Cut the cord on it all in my opinion. More harm than good will come from AI. There'll never be anything to convince me otherwise

Not really possible, no more than it would have been possible to make a collective decision to reject automobiles or radios. AI IS coming. The question, as always, is how we humans should deal with our creation.

Deplorables make up a large contingent of the PB. This topic is completely lost on them.

They're still trying to figure out how iPods worked.

:)

Oh I know there's no stopping it at this point. But I do believe it has the high potential to wreak havoc on the human race and the world with irreversible, unimaginable devastation. To what extent and what it will look like, I'm not sure but I don't want to see how that will all happen when it does. I hate that my kids will be growing up in the midst of it

Explore each and every corner of its sexual potential (horse-hung cyborgs, customizable-breast options, Wet Dream Machines), and then leave it abandoned on the side of the road with a note on the windshield saying “sry busted.”

They don’t have me working on National Defense I’ll never know…

The market will manage the problem. Just like it did when the Horse was no longer suitable for mass transportation.
The market managed that by a mass slaughter of horses, and by building a world in which you can't get by without a car. THE MARKET SUX at this kind of decision. We need to think of something better this time.
