What music get you in the mood?

What music of other authors get you in the mood to write your most erotic and greatest stories. I am currently working on my first story and while I have many ideas about what to put in the story if I don't have something to keep my going, such as sensual music, I become bored with it and I have to take a break and gather my thoughts before I can sit down and write again. I don't know if this is the same for any other authors.

I usally listen to smooth jazz when I am wanting to feel sensual and get in the romantic mood, but I find that in writing a story, a erotic story at that just doesn't help. I need something better. Any suggestions would bet great. I really want to show my writing skills on here. I know I can write just about anything but I have to get in the mood to write first.

Regards,

Thanks to everyone for all the great stories, althougth I haven't read much. There are some great stories. If you would like me to critque your work, I would love to. I like to read just about anything I can take an intrest in.

Howdy, Cowboy. Welcome to the AH.

My playlist depends entirely on the pace & tone of the scene I'm writing -- hot & hard, slow & easy, sultry & seductive ... You get the idea.

Hey Cowboy
Welcome
i am not as prolific as most here, but I generaly have music playing.
My playlist runs very, very heavy to blues and blues rock.
It is on constant rotation so the song changes.
Most any will work except country.(which I have none of anyway)
Good Luck

Oooh, dangerous thing to say. Offering feedback and reads in an environment like this? You might get attacked by a swarm of egos!

<Psst. Click on the link in my sig!>

On your question: I generally try and find a piece that fits the mood, finding the beat to match the tempo of the scene. Some stuff I've had success with for erotica include Freak Like Me (Sugababes), Being Nobody (Liberty X), Kryptonite (3 Doors Down), Black Velvet (Alannah Myles) and Oops, Oh My (Tweet). Just about anything by Nickelback is guaranteed to get me in a writing mood as well (every song tells a story!).

If you'll permit some unsolicited advice, I'm not sure the problem is mood, so much as being in the swing of the writing. If I'm not feeling it, then no music can jar me in. The only thing that gets you into the erotica writing frame is to start writing erotica. Don't expect to beat out Colleen Thomas or Black Shanglan on your first start, or even on your hundred and first. Just write. Then the right words will come.

Good luck and welcome to the AH.

Well, usually I listen to nothing...but when I write Montana Summer I will listen to Dwight Yoakim, Marty Robbins, Don Edwards, Patsy Cline, Hank Williams Sr...to get me in the mood....

I like to listen to all sorts of different things. Usually, every story has its own soundtrack. For the latest story, it's been: Foo Fighters, Radiohead, Oasis, Tori Amos, Coldplay and Gwen Stefani. :)

I just have the computer randomly pick songs from 'All My Music' - Most of it is from the 60's and 70's.

I'll listen to music while I'm gathering and organizing my ideas about a story, but I don't usually listen to music while I'm writing.

I usually try to pick music that puts me in the "mood" for the geographical location of my story as well as the relative ages and nationalities of my characters. Every little bit helps, and aural stimulation is a biggie for inducing my creative juices. ;)

The only thing that is a constant is the lack of lyrical content....that distracts me when I am trying to do my own wordsmithing...

jazz, classical, movie scores...even bagpipes

Music is for listeneing to. Not to have as background hum when I do other things.
