For me it's got to be upbeat and by someone who's having fun with the songs.

For example, Unskinny Bop by Poison

or even something by Ray Stevens

Daniel Bedingfield - I can't read you

Or, if I'm really pissed off.... All American Rejects or Hot Action Cop normally work too :D

It depends - I like a lot of different types of music but one thing I love right now is the soundtrack from Queer Eye. It's full of a lot of fun dance music.

Could be anything.
And it differs.
Music is like food, you wouldn't want to eat the same every day, would you?

Some funky, blow your brains out horns like The (Jazz) Crusaders or David Sanborn. Once in a while, Weather Report, just getting lost in the complexity can make me forget just about anything.

Richard Elliott and Candy Dulfer blow me away too.

And Susan Tedeshi, when I need some blues. She's like a cross between Janis Joplin and Bonnie Raitt.

My favourite song is "There I go Again" by Vinx
I only have two of his songs from the web and they arent really cheer up songs they just put me in a happy place.

Anyone have any of his other ones they want to share?

Barenaked Ladies always makes me smile. Their sweetest songs (at first listen) are so completely funny when you figure out the words.

For the best loud, kick-you-in-the-ass music I always choose AC/DC, or Ozzy (gotta love the Ozz-man).

Introspective calls for Crosby, Stills & Nash.

Anything by Bill Withers

The Drifters' Greatest Hits

Bob Marley

A Steely Dan song caled "Gaucho"

Who is that gaucho, amigo?
Why is he standing in your spankled leather poncho
With the studs that match your eyes?
Bodacious cowboys such as your friend
Will never be welcome here
High in the Custer Dome

Pop: Chuck Berry: My Ding-a-Ling

Spike Jones

Scott Joplin

Other: Handel's Messiah; Haydn's Symphonies (there are a lot of them); Beethoven Piano Sonatas.

Aretha Franklin.

"R-E-S-P-E-C-T, find out what it means to me..."

I'm cheered up just from typing it.

For true cheer: Rossini's "Il Barbieri" or "La Cenerentola". Uutterly spirited meoldies and duets, trios, quartets, quintets, etc.; the kind I don't mind carrying about in my head for hours, or days. Try them.

Perdita :)

Franz Ferdinand - Take Me Out

Keane - Somewhere Only We know

Snow Patrol - Run

I have loads more, but those are three of my faves for cheering me up, in a nice, calm way (except the tune to Take Me out is thumping! :D).

Lou

Allman Brothers, someof it you just can't help but tap your toes and once you start that, you are on the wa out of the doldrums.
