It is within the purview of human emotion; that we as a species are bound to such high minded Ideals such as love, companionship and loyalty.
It is also within the purview of emotion that we are bound to the darker side of our natures.
With such cruel cold emotions as hatred, jealousy and selfishness forever part of our nature.
However does humanity exists on the extreme of either side? or is the defining attribute of being human, and not just an upright walking hairless ape, Moderation?
Or is the defining attribute the ability to harness the energy of these emotions?

History and mythology is filled with such examples to all approaches ranging from such people as Socrates, Jesus, and King Solomon. To such as Hitler, Pol Pot, and Stalin.
Each of these people grasped some concept that the key to humanity was some how dealing with the emotion that controls us.

At what point however does the control and harnessing of emotion over-ride the natural experience of them? does one lose the ability to love fully, or on the opposite end, does one loose the ability to hate fully.
Do we even wish as a species, to return to the strength of raw emotion?

In all the socio-political gobbedly guk that has arisen in times past and present are we trying to breed emotion from ourselves? condemn the teachings of our forbearers? replace the flawed model of human emotion with some shining example of logical humane, mundane thought and action.
Will an artist true paintbrush cease being the emotion and imagination of the person viewing his or her work, and will the authors true voice cease to be heard in deep, dark, hidden places of our human souls?
When will we forget that perfection is only the gathering of a myriad of imperfection to construct a perfect whole, and start worshiping at the alter of mathematics and other perfect sciences?

Seize your soul, appreciate it, and revel in the emotions it provides you.

I feel like chicken tonight, like chicken tonight, chicken tonight!

I hear fried weasel is good if you don't mind the womp rats chewing on your ankle.

In all honesty Aquila my reply to your well worded and thoughtful post was very flippant and I ought to apologize for taking your words so casually. But since I've had too much wine and not enough food, I'll just say, my bologna has a first name, its o-s-c-a-r.

If you don't want the womp rats gnawing at your ankles go for broiled roadkill du jour.
A new type everyday and no competition from the scavengers.

I have a hard time believing that emotions come from the soul. Emotions come from chemical reactions within my brain and body.
However, this is the best sentence in your post.

Aquila:
” or is the defining attribute of being human, and not just an upright walking hairless ape, Moderation?”
The most important, imho, defining attributes of humanity are the ability to walk upright, an opposable thumb, an evolved brain, and the design of our mouth/tongue.
Emotions aren’t a defining attribute because the majority of birds and mammals have them.

Aquila:
“In all the socio-political gobbedly guk that has arisen in times past and present are we trying to breed emotion from ourselves?”

I’ve never heard of one moment to breed the emotions out of humanity.

Aquila, I think you’re trying to say something here but there’s a certain lack of clarity that keeps me from knowing exactly what. I get the feeling that you don’t know exactly what you’re saying or that, if you do, you’re doing a poor job of supporting your statements. I also think that you’re trying to emulate a certain tone of writing, which is often a mistake. Remember that the most complex ideas are often best served by being conveyed in a simple yet detailed manner.

Psst, Never. All primates have opposable thumbs.

My grahmar, spelling and punctuation is poor, but the style of writing is pretty much whats normally called a brain dump. I.E. from my warped little mind to the keyboard.

and its more of a post expunging thoughts that have been rattling around my empty head for a month or so, and as far as I have refined them.. at this time im trying to get outside input to further refine the dataset.
