What Kind of Motorcycle?

It's a beemer-- The little blue-and-white medallion is clear to see :)
And the horizontal (transverse?) motor - supposedly those cylinders going back and forth sideways add stability, or something. People say.

1950's to 1960's BMW The insignia on the tank gives away it's origins and the saddle gives away it's age.

Oh to have one now.

From the seat, rear shock cover and front fender strap it's definitely pre 70 most likely mid to early 60's. It's also a two cylinder. I think it was the early 70's that BMW went to the opposed 4.

After a little research, could the 50s 0r 60s be the model number instead of the year. the 50 series or 500cc and 60 series 600cc were introduced in the mid 60's and ran until 1974.

What seacat and txrad said. Because of the era, it reminded me of the one Steve McQeen rode in the Great Escape, though that was a Triumph.

No, look at the saddle, and then the drum brakes both front and rear. It's probably a mid to late 60's...and a beauty...

BMW still makes and sells opposed twin motorcycles. The latest version are, IIRC, the R 1200 series.

What was an Englander bike doing in the German army in 1943? (A traitor?)

Modified movie magic, I suppose. It was a traitor - it hopped a fence, but couldn't set him free. I still hear the rhythm of the baseball against the floor and wall. And didn't he drive a Mustang in some commercial or something?

What kind of Motorcycle is this? The blogger in question really doesn't specify--just that it's 50's-60's; I suspect from what he's writing about that it might be a BMW, but I want to be sure.

According to the filename, it is a 1968 model R-60 BMW -- commens by the ohers end to confirm the filename.

Oh, dear, "duh." I didn't even think to check the filename closely.

Thanks to everyone for helping me out on this. Interesting that you should mention the Triumph that Steve McQueen rode in "Great Escape"--that's the type of motorcycle I was originally looking for...but I like this one better.

The Triumph was supposed to be a stand in for a german motorcycle. I guess it jumped better than a BMW which is what the Germans used during WWII I think. The movie was made in the early 60s and back then Triumphs and BSAs were the off road bike of choice before Honda, Yamaha etc came in to play.

Yea he had that hot Mustang in the movie Bullitt. Ford recently released a Mustang in the same paint scheme...color, wheels etc.
