What is wrong with us?

It always makes me wonder, what if America just said, "Fuck you Iraq and Afghanistan, solve your own bullshit problems. We're bringing our men and women home. Your oil isn't worth the lives we've lost fighting your battles."
Do you think that would make the headlines before Tiger and the Sahalis?
I'm sure it would, but would probably share the page with Brittany becoming a mother again, or something similar.
Makes me wonder why the wars still rage over issues that don't involve America directly. Dumb fucks want to stir up shit over there, let them work it out themselves, so we can have our soldiers home where they belong and protect what's really important to the people.
Then reading about Tiger and the rest would be newsworthy.
We stirred up the shit over there, we were the dumb fucks. Do you remember what got us into Iraq and Afghanistan? It wasn't their problems, it was their oil. Bush & co thought that Iraqi oil was absolutely worth killing Americans over-- not to mention the insignificant side effect of the complete destruction of an entire nation's infrastructure. Things weren't great, but now the place is a living hell.

Oh, and a couple of Iraqi citiizen were killed. But that's just their bullshit problem.

Oh, that's not what got us into Iraq the last time at all. It was pride. Bush the Lesser was embarrassed that the far smarter Bush the Greater hadn't "gotten Saddam." And Bush the Lesser was determined he'd top pop.

It wasn't about Iraq's oil at all. It was about Saddam tweaking our noses--and specifically, what was seen as tweaking Bush noses.

SR, I tend to agree with you here, in that GW was definitely out for Saddam even before 9/11, and 'weapons of mass destruction' was the major, erroneous way he 'sold' the American public and got buy in on his personal agenda.

By the way, many folks I talk to would like to see Bush jr. and his VP prosecuted for 'war crimes' - I'm still on the fence on that, but leaning towards 'justice for all'.

oops, - hmmm I didn't intend to hijack this thread. apologies!

Don't mix Iraq and Afghanistan. Afghanistan was the war we should have finished up quick and thoroughly. Iraq was a complete waste of resources compounded by really incompetent civilian management.

After 9/11 Bin Laudin ran to hide in Afghanistan. So we put a few special forces in the country to wander around without instruction and waged a full fledged attack on Iraq.

This is foreign policy at it's finest under the Bush Administration.

We have a war in Iraq. Another war in Afghanistan. The Iranians are telling us to go fuck ourselves. Suicide bombers are blowing up shit all over the world.

So what's the BIG STORY today. Tiger (fucking) Woods screwed around on his wife.

(Shaking head)

Going back to your point. serious stuff doesn't sell papers or get ratings. We, the great unwashed, don't follow the debate of the troop surge in Afghanistan (isn't that a type of dog?) or the corruption of the presidential election.

What matters is reality shows (Oprah?) and 'dancing with the stars'.

When we worry if J-Lo has cellulite or if Cher's had another rib removed - that's when we get emotional.

Forget the Middle East; why has a celebrity golfer's little domestic and his infidelity stopped us debating the errors of well-protected politicos that let four hard-working, commited Seattle police officers with families be assassinated by a maniac.

I think all the valid points here speak of a more systemic illness - a pox if you will. The boils come to a head and rupture killing 4 Police officers here, 13 or so good soldiers there, a double hand full of college students in another place. And all the while we're checking the mirror to see if our hero's foibles and indiscretions have diminished the view...

fuck'd up.

While I wouldn't agree that the American war on terror is the most important thing in my life, I do agree that I don't give a fuck who Tiger Woods dipped his schlong into. I have as much compassion and empathy on this issue as I do for the fly that gets into my house as I scramble for my swatter.
