Lets start it out by saying, yes, I'm not very tall. 5'5''

Every time i read a personal ad every single one of them say the same thing. TALL!!!

What is it? I mean do woman have a fear of not being able to reach stuff? I see a ton of guys taller than me that are just flat out ugly. But when responding to a online personal ad they will get more attention because they can proudly state that they are 6'3''. The fact that they look like a sea donkey in person doesn't come up until much later. But me, who is fairly good looking guy won't even get a response because I am under the oh so impervious 5'9''.

What is the story with this woman?

Generally( studies show) women want men who are taller, make more money and are older..they always want to trade up...get used to it..

What about platform shoes and Monopoly money?

I've always felt sorry (not very, just a little) for angry short men, because they're most often either not gettin' any or they're gay.

Try paying for dinner with monopoly money and see what happens.. as for the shoes..who knows?

It's genetic and probably cultural (if it was only genetic then people probably wouldn't be explicitly stating it in personal ads) - height is supposedly a sign of health and wealth.

Personally, as a guy who is 6'6" tall, I think it is very over-rated. I would gladly give up six inches of my height. It causes health problems (really tall people have back problems, often really tall people have other health problems related to how fast they grew, etc.) - with everything from clothes to cars it is hard to find things that fit, and everybody notices you, which is not always a good thing.

My man is nearly exactly the same height I am- just over 5'6.

I love being able to look him right in the eye. I think he's just about perfect.

I'm not angry (or gay, not that you should feel sorry for someone who is though). I've had success with woman and will continue to. I just don't understand what it is about height. I know studies show that woman want taller men, but my question is why?

Men don't really have that one thing that is a deal breaker, sure men like certain things, but they don't really have the equivalent female necessity of tall men.

I don't know, it's just strange to me. Guess I will just have to live with it.

shoes. it's all about the shoes. with a tall guy we can wear all the cool ones.

Sorry, but you have to be either angry and/or gay...it's the Law of Short Men.

Women prefer taller men because we are better able to protect them from harm...we have better DNA, with better, creamier, sweeter manjunk that produces big, strong, superior offspring...that's why every generation gets taller...simple.

So please stop arguing and accept your fate...go put your penis in Killswitch's mangina.

I'm just marvelling at the utter absence of a "What is up with the breast obsession men have?" parody thread. I would start one, but who wants to bothered to type all that out?

I like nipples a lot, second only to a spectacular ass, but breasts are a bit redundant....besides, as women get older the National Geographic thing is a bit off-putting...

I don't have a breast obsession. And I actually prefer smaller to be honest.

Sure we do. It is just not as apparent. We want sex.

Or learn to ignore those persons who have such criteria. Whenever I see the words "must be financially stable" in a personal ad, I move on.

If a woman wears high heels, that totally turns me off. It tells me that she is more concerned about her looks than she is about her health and comfort, and that is not the kind of woman I look for.

That is so not the law...every gay guy I know is tall, and I'm not angry, my fate is accepted and it's not that bad...

It has nothing to do with my health or manjunk  I hurt my knee when I was younger and haven't grown since. Oh well, what can you do?

I think some gals see taller as simply more body mass to be smothered and manhandled by.

Who told you all this shit?

Women don't care how tall a man is. They really don't care if he is ugly, which is a good thing for most of us.

This is just a variation of the "does size matter" game.

I'm 5' 8" so generally I like someone who is as tall as I am or taller.

Sorry, I just noticed this. You can't seriously be suggesting that you've missed the very explicit expectations on weight and age many men include in their "want ads"? I think them as least as common as women asking for tall men and GSOH. They might even be on a standing with the dreaded "long walks on the beach."

As always, Bronze knows the truth.

And actually, us shorter women prefer to not have to stand on furniture to look our man in the eye, frankly! I am not sure why, but for the past few years, I have been meeting a disproportionate number of men well over 6 feet tall. Standing at 5'2" myself, that can be a problem for me.

But the truth is, as Bronze suggested, looks are not that important, nor is height. If I am gonna love you, it's gonna be for your brains.

Women are evolutionarily predisposed to think of taller men as being better protectors. Thus, they find them more desirable.
