What is this Runaway Bride thing?

I've been away this past week and am just now catching up on the news. What is this Runaway Bride story? I'm hearing bits and pieces - she ran away just before her wedding, and claimed to police that she'd been kidnapped? Or did she claim she'd been raped by a Hispanic man? And it turns out she was just stressed from planning her 600 guest wedding so ran away? Or was it cold feet?

I'm so confused. Has anyone been following this story?

Runaway bride

I heard it was just cold feet. She went jogging one morning (no wallet) and decided not to go home. She then got to Albequirque (or however it's spelled) ran out of money and claimed she had been kidnapped. There were like 100 cops looking for the culprit, but she fessed up that it was just cold feet.

And that's it in a nutshell.

Dis-claimer: All information above was pulled directly from my ass and I make no guarentees that it is accurate in anyway.)

Disclaimer accepted...did I just imagine the part about the rape? I swore I heard something about that. Also, has she explained why she said she was kidnapped? Like, ok if she got cold feet and ran away, but why claim she was kidnapped?

I see a 'truth is stranger than fiction' lit story here...

Edit: Scratch that. The news program I'm watching just said she issued a statement today saying it wasn't cold feet; she wasn't running away from her fiance or the wedding, but that she was running away from herself and her fears. And that she went to Las Vegas. Now I'm really confused.

It now appears that she purchased a bus ticket a few days before she made her break. It is a real mess.

Some genius put up a phony personal ad for her on a singles website.
It was hysterical.

There's a debate on whether she planned to run away - she purchased the bus ticket ahead of time, she lied to her boss so she could leave work, she cut her hair, and then was seen in a Las Vegas casino. I'm not sure how she ended up in New Mexico, but she lied to the police, claiming she had been kidnapped and raped, although she only lied for two hours before she recanted.

She's now in counseling, but still plans to marry her fiance.

I guess they're also considering whether to charge her with lying to the police and whether she should pay some sort of restitution for the police costs.

14 bridesmaids. Wow.

She sounds like an idiot. This wouldn't fly, even as a Lit story.

Sure it would, in the 'Running Wives' category

LOLOLOL If I wrote a story like this I would easily win the lowest vote score record. Talk about getting troll bombed.

What I want to know is why he would still want to marry her???

If looney tunes ran away from him, maybe he's more looney than she is?

I think this is hilarious, but I can't imagine that her parents who thought she was missing thought so. Or the police who could have been spending time working on real crimes.

Maybe she'll do all the talk shows now and get lots of money to pay for her wedding and honeymoon.

I can see why she ran away.

It looks to me like it was no longer her wedding. The families but in too much, the guest list goes from 75 to 600. Both mothers telling her what's best for her. And none of it is what she really wants.

Christ, I'm surprised she didn't go postal before she left.

And as if that wasn't enough stress, now the police want to press charges. Well I know what her defense will be.

[singing] Crazy. Crazy for feelin' so lonely.... [/singing]

But that's just my oppinion. I could be fucked in the head.

If that's the case, I wouldn't disagree with you. But instead of taking a Greyhound to Vegas by myself, I'd elope with the fiance, and leave a note for the parents. Or at least send them a text message: I m on honeymoon. Njoy the ice sculptures and taffeta dresses. Luv, Bonnie & Clyde, partners in crime.

Let's see, judicial filibustering, Bush's new social security plan, British elections, Pfc Lyndie England's Abu Graib case thrown out of court, an army cover-up of friendly fire in Afghanistan killing an ASU football hero who enlisted, and how many others dead due to car bombs?

Not such a slow news week; just slow journalists.

True enough. All of those other stories, however, are awkward in that they require actual investigation and a certain degree of knowledge and understanding. It's such a lot of trouble to go to when instead you can pander to the love of scandal and quasi-celebrity while simulataneously giving the bride's every friend, family member, and fourth cousin twice removed the eager-sought-after 15 minutes of fame that is now a legal entitlement of every American.

They're now actually running stories on how their own media attention is affecting her life. Amazing.

Ah, I see. That would explain their lack of interest in the bill before Congress to continue funding the war in Iraq, never mind the other items attached to it:

"The House easily approved another $82 billion for Iraq and Afghanistan yesterday, a measure that includes sweeping immigration overhauls and boosts the total spent on fighting terrorism since 2001 beyond $300 billion.

The vote was 368 to 58, with one lawmaker abstaining. The Senate is to vote on the measure next week, when it returns from a weeklong recess, and approval is expected.

The bulk of the money, $75.9 billion, is slated for military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, while $4.2 billion goes to foreign aid and other international relations programs worldwide.

The bill includes uniform requirements for driver's licenses across states, toughens asylum laws, authorizes the completion of a fence across the California-Mexican border, and provides money to hire more border security agents."
