What is the Setting for this Story?

I have a love/lust story that takes place somewhere like a hotel, convention center, conference, retreat, campground etc. I am trying to figure out the perfect setting for this story, and I am writing to ask if anyone can help me with ideas.

In this story, a man and a woman are involved with other people, but they are both in terrible relationships. They meet for the first time and by the end of the story, they wind up in bed together.

• There has to be a registration area, or a reception area, or a lobby where the characters can bump into each other and have an immediate attraction.
• Later they actually meet, and it turns out they are either arch rivals or they are in some kind of an adversarial situation, and they are annoyed by each other and they wind up hating each other. So they have to be there for some kind of an event or gathering where that can happen.
• In the end, when they get together, it turns out they would make the perfect team.
• Later that night, there is either a bar or a banquet or a meeting where people are having frozen margaritas (or some other blender drink) and socializing or dancing.
• The power goes out and it's very dark at one point, so someone gets lost in the dark.
• Everyone goes to sleep in their own rooms - so it has to be a hotel, campground, retreat center or some other place like that.
• In the morning they come back for breakfast at the same place where they had drinks the night before. There has to be a coffee grinder, and someone grinds fresh coffee for everyone for breakfast.

I had the idea that it was a wedding, but I couldn't figure out how they would come into conflict or how they would then team up at the same time they were getting together.

I had the idea of a campground, but frozen blender drinks and dancing didn't feel right.

I thought of a business conference, but I couldn't figure out what business they were in and how they would come into conflict at first, and then they would wind up as a team. What kind of business would they be in?

So that's my partly-filled-out story idea. Does anyone have ideas for where this would be, and why the characters would be there in the first place and what would be happening?

You're over-thinking this. Just about any industry has trade conventions, educational seminars, or award banquets at hotel convention centers. Pick any industry. Check out the movie "Cedar Rapids" and see how every element you described is present at an insurance convention.

Definitely business conference or convention. They can be from competitive companies, each vying for the same market share on some product. Or it could be a research conference, and they are presenting rival theories on some scientific discovery.

How about they went to the Republican National Convention in Tampa in 2012.

Perhaps they're reporters for different news networks, or they're tv pundits. Perhaps they're key staffers for different campaigns.

The power goes out because the hurricane was a direct hit to the city.
