My former lover and current wife is 10 years younger than me. The age gap was one of main reasons I resisted for so long when she first started chasing after me. (The other two being she was already in a relationship, and I was just not sexually interested in her). I’m eight years older than my wife.

The single rule of thumb of a socially acceptable age difference was half your age plus seven. I was 30 when we met, she was 22.

1/2 X 30 =15 plus 7 = 22 so it actually worked out for me. Interestingly enough, Theresa E. DiDonato Ph.D wrote an article about it in Psychology Today mentioning that it doesn’t work for everyone, but it’s a popular rule of thumb.
