What is taboo?

I've got several stories up, which I've classified as taboo, but some feedback has criticised the choice of classification. For example, I believe a tutor-schoolgirl scenario is taboo. If the category is incest/taboo, what qualifies as taboo other than incest?

it does seem that incest is the main topic for the taboo section, i agree taboo has a huge area but this site has strict rules based on laws so many are ignored. A teacher/ studant relationship is taboo as it's ilegal but it's not in the same contex as a incest story.

beastiality is also taboo but not in this site, same goes fo stories about erm not sure the name for it but peeing on someone

I think "taboo" has been tossed away by the readers of that category and that many reading there expect it to mean incest only.

Yep -- the taboo part of that category doesn't really exist any more. You get the occasional mother-in-law or sister-in-law, but otherwise, the readership demands blood relations -- the closer the better.

Urolagnia

not sure the name for it but peeing on someone

Academic dictionaries and encyclopedias

Urolagnia (also urophilia, undinism) is a sexual activity in which participants derive sexual pleasure from urine and/or urination ... These activities are often described with the slang terms"golden showers", "water sports", or "piss play".

Alarmingly (or commendably, according to your view) the article concludes:

In New Zealand, publishing anything promoting or supporting urophilia, whether in print or online, is an offence punishable by up to ten years in prison.

Now THAT'S taking the piss.

Am I the only one here who thinks it's funny to have it in the dictionary in the first place lol

Maybe they need to separate incest and taboo so stories can be segragated

"Maybes" on category changes on this Web site are pretty much a waste of effort.

Watersports stories generally get posted in the fetish category from what I've seen in the feedback portal. It seems that those looking for those stories look there.

Which begs the question of what would be taboo that couldn't fit into fetish? (Can't even incest fit into fetish?)

In a way, I suppose. The readership seems to have other ideas, though.

Readers and writers alike have defined the categories over the years, much to the detriment of diversity, I believe. From what I've surmised on the subject of categories, the existing database size and structure is the problem with tweaking it to address that.

I'm working on a mega e-book (250,000 words) on GM fetishes. I've got both incest and water sports in there. Seem to fit (as squeamish as they were to write).

Different story in the pay publishing world ( or really anywhere outside Lit ), but you know that :D

Incest just doesn't seem to fit, the way I think of "fetish". Fetish is more focused -- obsessive. Naturally, incest could very well be that sort of focused obsession ( I've actually written a series along that line ) but it just doesn't seem to mesh up with foot worship, watersports, panty lovers, etc. in my head.

I think there are variations. If it was on impulse or a fleeting thing, that's one thing. If it becomes an obsession, I think that's what fetish is all about.

(And I think the problem with many incest stories here is that the author doesn't bother to make it either of those--just plops it out on the table and then walks off.)

Maybe "taboo" is an obsolete idea anyway. I mean, is there really anything that's taboo anymore in the internet age? People still refer to incest as the "last taboo" I guess. I think it might have been the first taboo too, but who knows.

Anything involving minors
Bestiality
Actual snuff killing

Well, then (although I agree these are still taboos), why would there be a category for it on a Web site that doesn't allow any of this?

I was answering a previous post that asked what would still be considered taboo in the internet age.

There is a category here though. It's called REJECTED :D

I imagine you could have a category that covered these subjects in a thoughtful manner - the Lolita's, Romeo and Juliets, or even something similar to the real life example of a man that actively sought someone over the internet to kill and eat him - but I don't blame the site owners for taking the safe option and barring them entirely.

Perversely, it's probably only mainstream literature that can get away with tackling those subjects :)

I can also understand why the site owners do what they do. It's ironic, though, that you can write about all these things (if less graphically) in the mainstream without having a problem.

I think the underage/minor thing is (sometimes) used disingenuously on here anyway. I always make my younger characters well-developed physically. However, I've read a story where the character has been described as having a tiny bum and narrow hips. I can't remember the story now, but I thought it sounded gross. It's like as long as you say the character 1s 18, it's OK to go ahead and describe them as juveniles. That is disingenuous.

Question

why si ti necessary to ebven do stories with Pre Teesn as the subject, can't you get rghe same said effect using someone who is 18? No condeming anyonr for Preteens (al toh not mine taste) just wonder wh yso many people need to sue pre teens as a characters age
