Reading a lot on this forum - occaissionally- what is it to be proud as a gay or lesbian, bisexual or transexual person? :)

I see a lot of want and sex, but what is pride?

Proudness is a common emotion, I'm sure you have a fair idea what this is all about. GLBT people are often opressed by mainstream society. Therefore it is not easy to stand your ground and be who you are. The ones who still manage to do this, undoubtedly feel a certain amount of pride in sticking by their guns and being true to themselves.

Maybe it's because I live in the liberal Sweden, but I rarely experience this "pride". I am who I am, it's as simple as that. I try not to set myself apart from the rest of the world too much. I think that the ultimate goal of the GLBT cause should be to achieve indifference from society. So having pride in being just like everyone else (with a modification) will hopefully be a lot less common in the future.

Thank you for your post, we agree and I do understand and also I feel sorry for Americans. What is PRIDE, though, in the USA?

Pride as the opposite of shame.

Pride as in prevailing, not merely enduring.

Pride as in the more we liberate ourselves, we help others become free.

Pride as in we kiss a whole lot better
:D

Pride for me is that I accept myself for me (with all flaws) and that I can still get up in the morning and face another day.
Pride is knowing that my SO and I can and do hold hands as we walk along the street. (even though there still is a fear of being called names but yet knowing that words won't kill me)
Pride is knowing that I do not have to yell names back at them to know that I am the better person.

Pride is being happy with who I am even though it's not necessarily what some elements of society think I should be.
