What is it about "strong" personalities that gets your goat?

I have noticed a common theme in some posts around here about people resenting a "strong woman" or a "strong man"...what is up with that? Isn't it better to be strong than to be a doormat?

Not necessarily. My boyfriend has a "strong personality" - he knows what he likes, what he wants... as well as what he doesn't want, and he's not afraid to let you know. He's not an asshole about it, he just knows himself well enough and has enough self-esteem to stand up for himself.

I think strong personalities are sexy.

Assholes are not.

Not at all. Its more a question of what you qualify as "being strong"

It's about being comfortable with your own personality. Accepting that you can't please all the people all the time. Being able to live with the fact that you live your life your way.

It's not about trying to browbeat every one else into your own way of thinking or ridiculing anybody who doesn't think the way you do.

I like people who have strong personalities or opinions, but they need to realize that there are others who might disagree with them. Some of the people I know with the strongest personalities, also have the hardest time accepting that quality in others.
