Hospital Visits Surge as SoCal Experiences Worst Smog Since 2009

AUGUST 11, 2016

Ozone, the lung-searing gas in smog that triggers asthma and other health problems, has exceeded federal standards on 91 days so far this year compared to 67 days over the same period last year, according to South Coast Air Quality Management District data through Monday.

In June, only four days had healthy air across the South Coast basin, which spans Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties. In July, ozone levels violated federal health standards every day except July 31.

Sadly, Commander in Chief Yam lied to people in the Rust Belt.
Sadder still, I am guessing that the people of the Rust Belt want him to lie to them.

Except for the people that could have had something real.
(They were angry that Yam lied about what Yam had accomplished.)

O’Brien isn’t expecting much from an administration and Congress both run by Republicans. He has watched Ohio Republican Governor John Kasich and a GOP-controlled state House and Senate pass anti-union bills like Senate Bill 5—a 2011 law that significantly limited workers’ rights to organize. He hopes the Republicans will start to understand that they need to be better on unions and other issues facing his constituents to stay in their favor. But he’s doubtful it will happen, or that a Trump presidency will be the spark for change in Trumbull and Ashtabula.

“Do I believe Trump’s going to make true on his promises?” O’Brien says. “No, I don’t.”

The president-elect hasn’t helped his case by selecting career politicians and Goldman Sachs executives to his cabinet. Toward the end of his campaign, Trump promised to “drain the swamp,” to rid Washington of the career politicians seeking their own gain at the expense of working people. Now that he’s about to become the country’s most powerful politician himself, Trump isn’t likely to bring much change at all to workers without acknowledging how the work itself has changed.

Who was the President when these events happened? Oh ya the community leader who didn't make the world a better place.

It takes courage to have a backbone and set of values not determined by what is popular, but also integrity to apply it with fairness. Luckily, you will always have a place at the popular table.

The OP reminds me of the story Mark Twain told of the Old Lady and the naked boys.

Trump’s bait and switch: How to swamp Washington and double-cross your supporters big time

The Yam in Chief has promised to MAGA, but it seems he is going back to the Harding Administration as his model. Remember Teapot Dome? Remember ENRON? That is what we are in for in the age of Trump.

Given his cabinet picks so far, it's reasonable to assume that The Donald finds hanging out with anyone who isn't a billionaire (or at least a multimillionaire) a drag. What would there be to talk about if you left the Machiavellian class and its exploits for the company of the sort of normal folk you can rouse at a rally? It's been a month since the election and here's what's clear: crony capitalism, the kind that festers and grows when offered public support in its search for private profits, is the order of the day among Donald Trump's cabinet picks. Forget his own "conflicts of interest." Whatever financial, tax, and other policies his administration puts in place, most of his appointees are going to profit like mad from them and, in the end, Trump might not even wind up being the richest member of the crew.

Only a month has passed since November 8th, but it's already clear (not that it wasn't before) that Trump's anti-establishment campaign rhetoric was the biggest scam of his career, one he pulled off perfectly. As president-elect and the country's next CEO-in-chief, he's now doing what many presidents have done: doling out power to like-minded friends and associates, loyalists, and -- think John F. Kennedy, for instance -- possibly family.

The fucker isn't even President yet and has shown his contempt for not only the voters who voted for him but the law and the traditions of our democracy.

President Obama didn't cause that smog. I think I know who did.

I remember when vetteman proudly announced that he had every intention to drive his gas-guzzling car as much as possible, to spite President Obama. Maybe karma will make him one of the early casualties.

Why yes, it takes courage to be a racist, sexist, lying, betraying demagogue.

Integrity . . . like a.) Flat-out lying about the Carrier Deal; b.) Cyberbullying a private citizen; c.) Public ally attacking the same "working class" who voted for him; d.) Not releasing his tax returns

Why yes, these are "unpopular," but they do not show backbone or courage.

It's exactly this kind of response to differing opinions that has left the Democratic Party a small, regional, coastal party. Please, by all means, keep it up. Double down on it.

"ist" "phone" "demogogue"...rant on. Point fingers...and don't forget to had extra helpings of Ridicule...

Hopefully they kill some more cops and lynch a few white guys in the next 2 years, I'd hate to see them gain in congress LOL
