This is my first time starting a thread so please bare with me. I couldn't figure out if I should ask this in AH or Story Ideas, but I wanted to put it here because I'm looking for an author's point of view. So, here goes...

I'm looking to write a new story. A very erotic story. I asked myself, "Self, what is erotic to you?" A million different images came to mind but none struck me as something I could expand upon and develop into a story. So then I thought why not ask a bunch of erotic authors what is erotic to them. Here's me....asking you guys...

What is erotic to you?

Now...this isn't a wrong or right discussion and I hope it doesn't turn into one. I know what works for one Joe might not work for the other but I figure the more diverse answers the better chance of finding what I'm looking for. Anybody willing to help?

mellow,

my top five:

- mystery
- creative minds
- a little roughness mixed with alot of tenderness
- the 'look' that says, "God, you turn me on so much; I want to rip your clothes off and ..."
- water (oceans, rain, baths, pools, etc.)

I always find the erotic to be something forbidden....the more I'm exposed to it, the more it tends to lose its flavor!

Rolled up cuffs on a mans dress shirt, revealing forearms and well kept hands.

Catching him watching you, knowing what he's thinking.

Will add more as I think of them.

Passion and feelings are erotic.

I don't want to just hear about the physical act. I want to know what they're thinking, feeling, the emotion involved.

What type of emotions are erotic? Lust? Desire? Love?

Thanks so much for all of your replies! I'm at this point where I can almost put my finger on what I'm looking for but can't quite. I don't know how to explain it but you all are helping me quite a bit! Keep them coming please!

Passion, but not just about lovemaking types of things, but about anything. Confidence is erotic, very erotic.

All of them. Any type of emotion that just makes you want to be with the other person so much. It's an overwhelming feeling that you simply must have them. I want to hear about those feelings.

Let's face it. Any two people can fuck. That's easy to write. What makes it good is being able to capture the passion and emotion driving it.

I like that! I like that a lot. Just might have to quote you on that!

Something that includes all senses. Touch, taste and smell, not just looks and moans.
In addition it should be passionate and have a plot. :)

Everything is my first answer and probably my second.

What's not erotic would be easier but then again maybe not.

A naked woman cover in mud was highly erotic once a long time ago. Of course, knowing how she got that way probavly has a lot to do with it. :D

I have a story where the protag is melted entirely because a woman adjusts her clothing. Women do that, they pay attention to their details. They smooth the skirt, adjust the waistband, push a bit of hair behind the ear where it goes, straighten a seam, whatever it is.

For him, it meant she was marshaling her forces to conquer him.

I like this. :)

To me?

Integrity is fucking HOT. Add altruism, kindness, poise, intelligence, and self-confidence ... and I'm toast.

Those things are kinda difficult to capture in stroke, though.

For me, it isn't the whats, but their context at any given time or place.

The ability and desire to reveal and share your emotions.

Barely-concealed passion (such as trembling fingers, licking lips, nibbling of the lips).

Casual nudity. ;)

Telling me what you really want.

Dirty talk.

Sharing fantasies.

Indulging fantasies.

The human mind is the largest erogenous zone any of us possesses. Anything that enters that realm, that makes us think and feel, can take us to that place that is erotic.

It's in the action, the turn of a phrase and the mood. It's a pair of smokey eyes from across the room, a barely perceptible sigh, the way a shirt hangs open to expose a tanned chest.

It's in the texture of the skin, the blush of passion on a face, the fire blazing behind a lover's eyes.

And the laughter. Nothing is sexier than someone who makes us laugh. It's how we're carefree, living in another world as we read the words, transported from our own existence into the mind of the writer.

To me, it's involving the senses; the more the better.

I like the sight of a cock so hard it looks as if it's trying to burst out of its skin (though that's pure ego on my part). I like the sound of silence broken only by pants, moans and rasping breaths. The taste of sweaty skin, the scent of arousal. The feel of skin against skin and nibbling kisses. Throw in a little rough handling and I'm likely to swoon at the mere thought.

As for what I find erotic in a mate... too complex for a paragraph or so. Though the ability to make all of the above happen is a good start ;)

The entire reproductive cycle is erotic. Insemination, pregnancy, lactation . . . and babies to chuck under the chin in the end. God, parenthood is hot!

What is erotic to me?

Hard to capture. Everytime I try to write about the erotic, I almost taste it in the words, but not quite. Not good enough. It's like a fleeting glimpse of that perfect desire out of the corner of my eye. When I turn to look upon her fully, she has run away.

I can't even say that I know when or what I will find erotic. I think it changes with the weather...or at least my mood. She may capture me with a look, a phrase, the way she dresses...or undresses, a mood, a smile. It may be deliberate, it may be unintentional. Sometimes the most desirable are the ones that I can't have.

Erotic has an element of tragedy, of dispair to offset the satisfaction of sating the senses. It has tendency to find the comical, even in the midst of animalistic passion. There is no truth, no poetry in the erotic, only desire.

So erotic is a red pair of shoes and lips that taste of back cherries. Erotic is a woman's frame draped in a leather jacket and nothing else. Erotic is breast exposed for tasting. Erotic is long hair and a half shadowed silhouette. Erotic is when she exposes her passion and satisfies herself with her own fingers. Erotic is when she whispers dirty words in my ear as I stroke deep inside. Erotic is.
